Gravesend ? The Kentish countryside is pretty nice, but there are some ****ty towns in Kent. And most of it these days is just another suburb of London.
No mate not Gravesend, slightly more upmarket than that Although I do go to Gravesend from time to time watching local bands. One of my favourite from the Kent area is a band called the "strumbums" and I think they all originate from the Gravesend area, so I tend to see them there.
Yeah I know the area pretty well. grew up in Lewisham, so weekends when my dad was off work, we'd drive out to Hever castle, Tenterden (for the steam railway) or strawberry picking at various pick your own farms etc. Spent a fair bit of my childhood in England's green and pleasant back garden
Some really nice areas in Kent, but as you said most of the towns closest to the A2, leave a lot to be desired. Dartford, Gravesend, Strood, Chatham, Gillingham etc all have there fair share of undesirable areas.
Yeah that Thames corridor is largely a ****hole, both sides of the river in Essex too. With all the Chavs congregating at Bluewater or Lakeside. You have to get out into the countryside to experience the real Kent. I used to do a lot of cycling around there and into Surrey and Sussex too. One of my favourites was jumping on a train at London Bridge to just outside of Guildford and then cycling down an old disused railway line that had been turned into a cycle/walkway. It ran all the way to Shoreham. So I'd cycle into Brighton and then get a train back to London Bridge
