My Team Reina Kelly Carra Agger Jose Dirk Lucas Adam Downing Luis Carroll subs.doni, skrtel, flanno, hendo, maxi, spearing, and (if kk isnt gonna play cole, poulsen, ngog, insua, degen) perhaps sterling or more likely eccleston Does anyone know how far away Aurelio,Johnson and Stevie are from returning If Eccleston and Sterling may make the bench ,it definitely says we need 1 or 2 attackin reinforcements before the 31st (Bellamy and/or Yossi )
If I were you, I wouldn't waste my time attempting to pick the squad, as you are more than likely going to be wrong. A lot of people thought that Suarez wouldn't start the first game of the season and he did, and they thought he would be left out last night and he wasn't. The number of people that got last nights team in full right can be counted on one hand.
I think the team kinda picks itself these days... The biggest decision point is "Dirk" or "Henderson". Kenny didn't do much resting against Exeter so I imagine he won't against Bolton. It will be interesting if he benches Suarez again and plays Kuyt and Henderson at the start. Saturday to early too have Coates on the bench? Problem with starting Kuyt, Suarez AND Carroll: If you need energy in attack- who do you bring off the bench now? We really need someone to replace the outgoing N'Gog.
Apparently Coates arrives in England early tomorrow, with Skrtel now fit I dont think its a major miss if he isnt involved.Coates agent/dad is supposed to be in talks with Comolli and Ayre tonight.I suspect he wont be involved with all the work permit nonsence. I think what is an issue with Cole,Ngog not being involved,Stevie and Meireles being injured, and Pacheco and Aqua having left, its leaves us a bit short with attackin players off the bench.Which is why I would consider Sterling, having thought about it ,I think Shelvey will be 7th sub
Well without an accent on the word normally the stress falls on the penultimate syllable of a Spanish word. As for the s, that's always an ess sound in latin america or a 'th' sound in Spain. So I would imagine his name would be be pronounced co-ahh-tess I think. No doubt though that commentators will make up there own versions...
Dunno- although supposedly he has some English ancestry- so his surname probably does originate from England... Don't know how many generations his ancestors have been in Uruguay and if it is long enough to take on a more Spanish sounding pronunciation. How would "Coates" be pronounced in Spanish? Anyone know? I know Spanish uses a very strict phoenetic pronunciation unlike our own English.
Cool... yes... I still hear different versions of Kuyt... I remember once when Crouch and Kuyt were both in the team the commentators getting all tongue tied and kept talking about "Krout"
I loved the 'kite' pronunciation of his name. The one that makes me laugh is 'meirelesh' when (apparently) an s is never pronounced as 'sh' in Portuguese and the commentators just invented it...
Mereiles according to Martin Tyler sounded like My Relish. Then there was Kuyt pronounced as Kwitch. Dirk said it himself its pronounced Kout as in dutch its spelt Kuijt.
As you say, Dirk said it was pronounced kowt when he first came. As for Meireles, I think there is a softer sound to the s in Portugese than in say, Spanish -so I think it's quite close to sound it like sh or zh
Lucas, adam and henders in MF, downing, suarez and carroll up front in a barca-like 4-3-3. Spearing and Kuyt coming on at 70mins. Before you object, I already did it in FIFA and won 6-0.
Did i not read somewhere his grandparents were sweaty socks( probably strays from Ally's Army) So surely Coates is pronounced Coats
