Would you take the sale of Lascelles for £50m if it meant Mike left the club? It may bridge the gap in the sale valuation.
Loaded question. Who is coming in? It’s not really up to Mike or Rafa. If he wants to go he’d go. Simple as that really. Mike couldn’t force him out - he’s never forced any player out. The club have accepted bids but the player could always say no. Carroll accepts it was his decision. Rafa could if he made it clear he wouldn’t pick him but that hardly seems likely. The only person who will decide Lascelles future should a bid arrive is Lascelles. However if you are saying we get 50m and owners who are able to take us to the next level in terms of spend then yeah I’d take it.
£50 million for Lascelles would be silly money. He is good but not that good. I'd give away Lascelles if it meant Mike leaving the club
Not so much who would replace Lascelles as who would replace Mike, there have been too many frying pans and fires in league football down the years and no matter what else at least Mike has been financially careful in his ownership, the rest of it he has been crap at but there's no surety that a new owner isn't going to crash the club.
Just Lascelles for £50m? I'd sell the entire first team for a penny if it would ensure that fat **** left the club! And I'd say £50m was fair for Lascelles, if Van Dyke went for £75m.
The two actual alternatives are a) Mike stays and sells Lascelles without replacement, and b) Mike leaves and the new owner makes Lascelles our John Terry for the next 10 years...
Mike would pocket the 50 million and bring no one in to cover the position then he would say all this talk about him going was beer talk
I have liked your comment on this post purely because I couldn't bring myself round to put it against what you said on whitey's thread ouch!
No! £50M these days doesn't get you much. Not only would we need to replace him at CB but also a captain which would probably cost far more than this £50M. Someone mentioned Virgil Van.... but he is 2 years older and not £25M better.
Sadly agree. IF Mike allows Rafa to spend what we bring in then I'm fine with Mike. Anyone coming in is an unknown quantity and more often than not in recent times that has ended up being a bad thing. We don't seem likely to go bankrupt any time soon and if we can survive in the Premiership whilst balancing the books we'll end up being top 10 in years to come by sheer process of elimination.
No from me. I think Lascelles should be kept. That said, I never wanted Carroll to be sold and we survived without him. If Newcastle United could guarantee keeping Rafa as the Manager, I would be happy for him to decide about transfers. Talk of Mike Ashley selling-up are pure fantasy. He had the perfect opportunity to sell but when it came to the crunch, he just gets greedy. Ashley is the proverbial leopard who will NEVER change his spots. We're stuck with him and we're going to have to like it.
