There will surely only be one disciplinary panel for all the leagues.

As a wise man once said ''all animals are equal , but some animals are more equal than others''.

Bert Millichip 1984 outside the old FA Headquarters at Lancaster Gate?

Paolo Di Canio got away with blatant racism at Swindon, during training he referred to one of his players by his skin colour and not his name, his club apologised after saying he had no case to answer and the FA let it ride after its investigation.
So it was admitted he said it but he never got fined or banned.<laugh>

"Di Canio was alleged to have referred to Tehoue by his skin colour, not his name, and is under investigation by The FA over the claims.

Documents obtained by the BBC read: “The club accepts that the use of this phrase was inappropriate and apologises to your client for any upset that this has caused him."

This incident took the FA by surprise, it was about to embarrass them. The statement they made was a damage limitation.

Am I missing a (possibly obvious) Orwell related theme other than Bert Millichip being chairman of the FA when the premier league started?

Not sure who mentioned it earlier but it’s nail on the head - the FA want to be seen to be doing something about racism. Trial by media.

If this was the other way around a lot of people would be backing the Liverpool player, we get sucked in and back the club.

Reality is we don't know the thinking behind Holgate making the complaint, he may have genuinly thought he heard something so did what he thought was right.

Maybe he should have just spoken to Firmino after the game when things calmed down and avoided this whole thing. Crazy idea I know.

Nah, he reacted spontaneously at the time, no way that was malicious by Holgate. Once he’d made the accusation on the pitch, the referee had to put it in his report, and the wheels start turning. Even if they’d have discussed it privately afterwards that wouldn’t have changed the path this has taken.

Now it’s concluded I think it’d be a good move for the pair to have a meet up and maybe a staged handshake for the press, to show that they’d buried it though.

Maybe, we don't really know and Liverpool fans accusing him making things up is crazy as we simply don't know.

    yup.

I like to take people on face value til proven otherwise.

AS IN IF FIRMINO IS PRESUMED INNOCENT TIL PROVEN GUILTY FROM MY PERSPECTIVE THEN HOLGATE DESERVES THE SAME PRESUMPTION.

I was of same opinion right up until the report came out. Put yourself in a similar position where you have misheard something during a heated exchange, given all the evidence including that you don't even speak the language it was said in and the seriousness of the situation, what sort of person does not admit the POSSIBILITY that you misheard what was said?

It was either Holgate overreacted or was not thinking. He wanted to make a point but he had made none.

Spontaneous? He's stood there for about 5 seconds with a gormless look on his face before reacting. Since he doesn't speak Portuguese I doubt he was in deep thought about Firmino's words. He spoke with Fat Sam and Walsh at half time and then full time and could have spoken to the ref about it again. At any other point during the 7 week investigation he could have admitted he may have been mistaken, but of course the longer it goes on the harder it is to admit his lie.
