Did you mean “is NOT” rather than is? :bandit:

I agree that it is for the accuser to be proven right rather than for the accused to prove that he is innocent. Otherwise there will be chaos and many people taking chances with false accusations e.g to gain compensation at work.

There is a reason imo for the way the FA worded the statement:

    1. They wanted to draw the line under the incident. Firmino is not being charged as a racist and Holgate is not being labelled as a liar. The FA did not want to provide any ammunition for either party if one decided to go to a civil court.

    2. They wanted to be seen to take such incidents seriously. They said the verdict on this incident should not put off any future reporting. They couldn’t cast doubt upon Holgate’s motivation as they didn’t have proof. So they said he was innocent of being labelled a liar and reported the incident in good faith.

That way both players could be reasonably happy with the outcome. Firmino seemed happy and released his own statement of vindication. Holgate wasn’t called a liar and only reported what he thought he heard.

Mealy mouthed may be but I couldn’t see what else they could have said without increasing the risk the incident being dragged on further and onto the civil courts.

Don’t agree with this, I don’t take what you’ve asserted there from the FA statement so what you’ve taken from it isn’t universal. Holgate thought he’d been racially abused, but there’s no evidence to prove it, so they’ve rightly backed Firmino. The idea that the accusation was malicious was always bollocks imo, and tbh I’ve always thought it was a case of lost in translation. The statement imo backs that view. It ends there, no reflection on Firmino as far as I’m concerned.

I won’t be joining in, but you’re probably right some will, but of course they’d have not done that without the FA statement..........football fans innit. See Me La for details

I think the evidence of Firmino’s reaction makes it clear he was shoved to his surprise.
Someone has said this on here before but shoving in the back is very cowardly, and very dangerous. One of the few red cards i have received in enclosed 5-a-side was down to retaliating to this action.

Lets follow the theory through that he dived or enhanced the shove, why would he have jumped up so quickly and so enraged ? If he was rationally thinking about exagerating he would have stayed down and allowed the ref to take action. He didnt, he lost his **** ( what i did) and went on the attack himself, that is the action of someone who feels wronged.

Only Holgate will ever know what he was thinking or feelling and unless he comes out and is honest about what happened we will never know.

The little evidence we have would indicate that Firmino mugged him off earlier,
Holgate let the derby atmosphere get to him, next chance he got tried to shove him, didnt do enough so shoved him again, more out of frustration.
He simply lost his head, was it a red - yes imho the intent was there and that in itself was enough for the red.

It isnt really that big of a deal. It a normal cause and action that happens on a football pitch week in week out all over the world in every football league.
From there on it goes batshit crazy, we can discuss it all we want but we are never going to know what happened.

Tbh glad it is now over. I do think the wording in the statement is a bit harsh on Firmino but it is so difficult these days, that said many others on her have made many suggestions which could have been used.

I dont think it was intentional by the FA (i dont think they think Firmino is guilty), I think they are just trying to make sure that Holgate isnt judged for something that could undermine the entire kick it out campaign. Bigger picture and all that.

What annoys me is yet again the press and pundits get away with ****, they been doing it all week with Pogba and Jose. They will drag this up next time we play. shearer et al. raised the level of this when it first occurred they defo should be warned and who knows maybe they have been, we will see next time if they rush to judge.

Oh and short answer looking at the vid.

    Yes

    Statement from Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino has given his response to the FA's decision today regarding the allegation made against him during the FA Cup tie at Anfield, played on Friday January 5, 2018.
"As difficult as it has been to remain publicly silent, given the serious and damaging nature of what it was claimed I said during the game, I did so to demonstrate my respect for the process and to allow the issue to be investigated in the most thorough way.
"It is critical for football that tackling racism and all forms of discrimination is taken extremely seriously. As someone who has experienced racist abuse during my life, I know how damaging and hurtful it can be.
"Now the process is concluded, I would like to place on record, for the avoidance of any doubt, I did not say the word, or a variation of the word, that was claimed and subsequently reported in the media. I did not use any language that referenced race. I did not - and would never - reference a person’s skin colour or culture, by means of insult, during a dispute or an argument.
"There is no place for discrimination on a football pitch, or anywhere else in life for that matter.
"I am pleased after exhaustive reviews of all the evidence, in this specific incident, the matter is resolved."
