Well there isn't much snow and ice around the equator, so no real tradition of Winter Sports. Plus Winter sports tend to be very expensive to setup and then do. Although I do wonder why the countries that do go very far south don't have more competitors, Countries like New Zealand, Argentina and Chile for example
Suppose its population levels and infrastructure in the suitable areas. The cold bits of Argentina/chile are pretty isolated aren't they? Remember articles I read from my climbing days that the likes of Patagonia you didn't want an accident because you were basically fecked: no one was coming to help you.
not being smart but some of the best skiers are from italy... i'm sure one or two have brown eyes but the italians don't seem to chuck rocks at the ice. As i said before. the winter olympics stikes me as the rich kids games. rich kids doing figure skating rich kids doing bobsleigh and such rich kids playing x games on snow board rich kids skiiing The only sport i rate in this olympics is cross country and the biathalon which comes right out the the army drills and survival days.
