The reason is obviously due to a combination
of variables, and AFAIK nobody has identified
a minimal variable combo that is statistically
significant (so you can say : address both X
and Y, and the disparity will vanish etc) .

"The example I gave regarding the disparity between
exam result in boys and girls is a useful analogy i think."

Not an analogy, a kindred study of a disparity.

The difference here however is that of all the
    variables considered, boyhood immaturity +
when in adolescence "showing off" in front of
girls (in mixed gender classes) was easily
shown to be the big factor.

That is also a problem I am having, does the disparity need to vanish?
Is it something that needs fixing?
Women, if they dedicate themselves to their career, and go for it, can achieve just as much and earn just as much.
I mean, ffs, we have a female head of state, a female Scottish first minister, we even have a ****ing female doctor Who now!!
Women need men and men need women, I cannot help but think sometimes that there is some idealism going on here.
Government intervention on everything is not always the answer.

There is more to it than that in reality.

Pregnancy/maternity is factored in a lot of the times with career progression. However women exceed what's available and that us what leaves them behind, not simply having a baby.

If anything women abuse maternity leave, in my experience of working in local govt and our female HR manager confirms this

Basically winen tsje leave in full pay, some then return part time, others go on sick leave and once the maximum time limits are exceeded (basically no more money available) they leave the job or have already found alternatives

That me limited projects i n regeneration are massively hit by pregnancy/maternity leave and post natal depression etc.

Post natal depression and such us a strange one too. Women suffering will take time of and get sympathy etc but then complain about career progression. The question never asked is "so as an officer you are suffering from depression/anxiety/stress, but you want us to put you in charge of a team which will increase your stress anxiety/depression?"

Sure my response is not the be all and end all but it shows how its a complicated issue

    Disparities cause resentment.

If a disparity can easily be removed, then do so.
If not, then do those things that will easily
decrease the disparity to a more acceptable level.

Then maybe mindsets need to change

I think if anything has been proven when it comes this issue, its that it cannot be easily removed.

At the end of the day I believe, more often than not, women are being paid for the work they do, mostly in line with what men get, and that the disparity is being caused by a lot of factors, some of which are not fixable (biology and medical).
If a woman (or anyone for that matter) feels they are not being paid what they are worth, then that is something that they need to address with their employer.
But government legislation opens us up to all kinds of possible reverse bigotry and over compensation (like the invention of "Hate crimes", "affirmative action" and other such discriminatory bullshit).

Because what also causes resentment, is when standards are lowered, or when people are given an advantage due to their gender, race or sexuality.

    That is human nature, time-honoured.

"I think if anything has been proven when it comes this issue, its that it cannot be easily removed."

As I said, if it cannot be removed, then do those
things with the highest ROI that may reduce the
    disparity to more tolerable levels.

This is how much of engineering operates on
a daily basis to solve the problems in the world.

If women stayed at home, cooked, cleaned and raised children, we wouldn't have these mix ups

Been a while since I've read any of the "Original sin"
text in Genesis, but given I watched that Weinstein
documentary yesterday on C4, I am confident that said
text does not include sexual abuse of Eve by "men
in power" (God, Adam) nor Eve being forced not to
disclose said abuse from anyone else.

I could be wrong though ...

A lot of these women signed NDAs and took the cash, leaving the next woman to be unaware of Weinstein and so get assaulted.

SJW ****** central, Australia, gov minister says "we need a debate on mixed gender teams in elite sports"
    http://www.smh.com.au/federal-polit...australia-s-elite-sports-20180220-p4z0ys.html

The result of this? all the women who currently play top women's elite sports will be put out of work in sports like Oz rules, rugby, basketball and every other contact sport, and even sports like handball which women's teams get all the sponsorship as no women would make the the teams.

"However Marnee McKay, a lecturer in musculoskeletal physiotherapy at the University of Sydney, doubted mixed gender teams would suit contact sports.

She said her researched showed that from 12 years of age, "males and females are fundamentally physically different in terms of speed, power and coordination and balance".

She said tests demonstrated males were stronger than women but females were better at tasks that required fine motor skills. Dr McKay said mixed gender teams could work for sports like lawn bowls.

"But rugby league? No. I cannot see male and female professional athletes competing across all sports as a blanket rule."

Yet another example of equality of
    OPPORTUNITY vs equality of OUTCOME.

Lets not forget women have wider hips, this leads to being 5 times more likely to get an ACL injury

Womens tennis is one of the exceptions where
the physical aspect (Williams bully beasts aside)
is less to the fore, and the technical aspect is
more appealing to watch for spectators of both
genders. Seeing them deal with 5 set games
would be of academic interest to some of us though.
