I don't entirely agree. It will always be the three wins from the double season, but had we beaten Everton and then been given the bye they had in the Final I would have been happy with a Cup win and 2nd in the league. Relegation and a Cup win is a different prospect. Of course winning the league would have been a massive consolation for that semi-final, but I don't think we're comparing like with like. Relegation is crap. Not just when it happens but the next season when you look at the fixtures.

That even the most hard hearted can be seduced by the magic of the Cup?

This is a head/heart argument in the main, it seems. When the FA Cup had as good as gone - i.e. when we had drawn City away - the head could say "There you are, now get back to worrying about relegation." That Wigan win suddenly has the heart saying, "Sod it. Might get relegated but we're talking maybe two Wembley trips and silverware. Bring it on."

I doubt anyone - and I certainly include myself - is 100% committed to either line. I've said league (despite my advancing years, btw) but should we be at Wembley on May 19 and win it I will be in dreamland, even if we have lost our PL status. I suspect Cup voters would be pretty depressed if the Cup holders were looking at Championship football next season.

I appreciate and applaud the sentiment of this thread, but in reality we are in an emotional area where choices become "fluid".

These threads seem to come around every few years... Always end up with one side of the argument calling the other sad for preferring the league performance. Nothing different this time.

Not for preferring, but for he reasons.

Point of interest (or not): in previous discussions on this, I have sat on the other side of the fence. Not this season though.

Just thought i would leave this here as we don't seem to have a team if we go down thread.
I would enjoy seeing more of our own at least.

Don’t forget we’ll need a team for the Europa League as well...

I went with Prem, though a cup and relegation wouldn't be the end of the world.

Over the next year or two, we are probably moving to be with our daughter and grandchildren in the US, so from a selfish point of view I wanted to stay in the Premier League as I know I can watch every game still. However, a cup win before I go would be good :)

That team won't moan about playing twice a week for the whole season!! Probably comprise of most of the England team in a few years seeing as they will have week in week out practice and the Prem will be an English free zone by then.

JWP is off to Man City! Their lack of creative players means they need someone who can take a corner!

You will soon be watching gridiron in preference to soccerball now mate.

It's fourteen down and ten in the Forty-niners twenty two, as they say.

I voted stay up. Purely personal reasons, they do not show championship football in the US so no football for me if we go down, but my Saturdays at 10am will be stress free. #plasticfan

Cup for me , how many years have we been in top flight over past 50 years ? How many times have we won the cup in our history ? 1976 is etched in our history ,all those years in top flight out of memory apart from maybe 1983 ? When runners up
