Being linked is one thing. Transfer is another. As for mega money move, I suppose you think VVD is world class, he's the most expensive CB in the world and was linked to City United and Chelsea as well
No one's saying he's a **** player, but comparing him to Costa and Suarez when he's not even the best spurs midfielder (arguably, son, eriksen dembele are all better than him).
I rate VVD but not at £75m, difference here though is Soton knew how desperate Pool were for a good CB, Soton raped them and good on them. Being linked with Real Madrid (and Utd) is a different story and I think you know that, you're just playing ignorant here.
Has nothing to do with him being the best in his role or best at the club. Is he a top player? Yes. Is he a player that's hated by the rest of the division due to his antics and personality? Yes.
Costa had his highest scoring season for Chelsea last season. Alli matched him with 22 in all competitions. Given the eight year age gap, the fact that one's an out-and-out striker and the other isn't and one doesn't deserve a red every game and you're in very subjective territory.
Firstly, being linked is not necessarily a given. Real get linked with every player under the sun. Then the teams, i don't see Real being that much better than City (as a club bigger, as for whos playing i'd say City are at a higher level) so i'm going to have to disagree with you there about Alli being world class just based on clubs linked. VVD isn't world class but was linked to city and Courtois who isn't bad is not a patch on the worlds best keepers and is being liked to Real.
so you are comparing Alli, whos had 1 great season to Diego Costa, a man whos had many great seasons (i won't even get into the medals part and making a difference). I won't even mention Suarez as he is on another level. Anyway don't blame me, its half the board here who don't rate him that highly (normally when he's off form or having a hissy fit) Depends what you mean by top player. He wouldn't make the top PL squads imo. Good enough for a top 4 side sure (if we say make 4 squads of the top players) but he wouldn't make my best 25. Hence i was debating your "Great player" tag.
The original post was just about good players that opposition fans hate. Costa and Suarez are obvious candidates. Charlie Adam would be another, if he was good. At Alli's age Costa was having a 9 goal season for Valladolid. Alli gets stick because he's not having as much joy as he did in the last campaign and people are worried that he's distracted. He wouldn't be the first player to get a bit of success and go off the boil if it were to happen, but he's not having a bad season, by any means.
Wrong, Real don't get linked with every player under the sun, they get linked with very good players who are either showing massive potential or are already a world star, in Alli's case he's the former, I've never once said he's world class so you're creating a side to an argument that I haven't even made. If you ask me if I think he can one day be world class, then I'd say he has a chance. It doesn't matter if you think City are better than Real, Real still remain the biggest club on the planet and will do so for many years, regardless of what potential success City may achieve in the coming years. Ask any neutral who they'd rather play for, I guarantee you the majority will say Real. I don't even get the point you're trying to make in your last sentence. Again, I've not said VVD is world class... And why Courtois is being mentioned I have no idea, you're swaying far off topic.
41 goals and 37 assists in a 132 games for us. Winning YPOTY for the past two seasons. Being in the TOTY for the past two seasons. Has scored goals against Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Real Madrid all before he turns 22 years old. I'd say those would somewhat contribute to him being a top player. You say he wouldn't make the top PL squads but then say he's good enough for a top four side... Makes a lot of sense.
if you pick out the best players in a 25 man team he wouldn't make it. If you pick out the best players in 4x 25 man team i'd have him. Nice stats though . It's a subjective matter, guess we'll move on with Alli being upset with my opinion of him
Suarez isn't a great example as the media gave him plenty of leeway. He put in some shocking challenges that never got pulled up and even in his last season got praised for "cleaning up his act" after going a whole season without biting or racially abusing someone... before biting someone again at the World Cup. If Alli's diving puts him on the same level as a cannibal racist then football really is becoming a parody of itself.
I don't really get the point, still. Are you saying Alli wouldn't make City's squad who are currently the best team? Or are you saying that if the best 25 players in the Prem suddenly all played for one side, Alli wouldn't make it? If the former, I'd disagree, as he can make any squad in the Prem. If the latter, then that's just a bizarre point to make. That's like saying only the best 25 players in the world can be world class, anyone not in that can't be world class, when there's clearly more than 25 world class players on the planet. In this instance, there's most definitely more than 25 top players in the Prem.
the latter. I guess my use of great player is different to yours (especially with respect to the players you compared him against). Basically the best players in the league which i have now defined as the best 25. Anyway semantics, no point going into a big debate about it.
Fair do's, Bob. For me, it's an unorthodox way of defining a top player but that's of course your prerogative.
