I’d prefer myself to win the fa cup,as I will never see Saints ever win the PL. What Leicester did will never happen again in my lifetime. The rich clubs are only going to get richer leaving the so called small clubs way behind. At least in the fa cup or any cup for that matter you stand as good a chance as any. Sorry to disagree with most on here, but the PL for me is overrated and over stacked with overrated players whom are currently ruining it with almighty greed.
In truth though non of the big six are that interested in winning any of the cups. They are more interested in Europe where the big money is...........You have only to look at the bigs six's cup history. While granted clubbed together they have won a lot. It is not a regular thing. So for me it is obvious they prefer to be in the top 4/6 because of Europe where the real glory is. This year because we are having a bad year in the league the cup is our only option to get into Europe so I guess we have to do our best to try to get to the final. However not at the expense of our not surviving in the premier.
Do you honestly think saints can overcome 2 of the 4 big clubs to win it? Given the teams performance so far?
Oh go on then, FA Cup and win lots of games in the Championship (except we wouldn't because we'd sell off any of the half decent players we have left and plummet back down through the Leagues until a nice cuddly German / Swiss man buys us and saves us) So, on reflection, oh go on then, survive in the Premiership.
Not really though as the big 6 have won the majority of the FA cups in the past generation, so that doesn't add up to me.
I'm not suggesting we will ever win the league but staying in it is massive for all sorts of reasons.
I think you have a very fixed mind on this discussion. I did say they had won most of the cups. However if you look through the whole history you don’t have the top six clubs consistently playing each other in the final which surely if they had the same Interest in winning the cup they would be.
It could, but it is so incredibly unlikely. But as I say, I apply a similar view to winning the FA Cup. We have just one more FA Cup in our trophy cabinet than we have top flight Championship title. So I'd rather be in a position on day one of the season where we're in with a chance of both/either (however unlikely), rather than just one.
I take your point but before the PL era there wasn't the gap like there is now so cups (and league titles) were more spread around. The top 6 now haven't always been the best teams either. The big clubs use the cup to rotate for sure but take it seriously when it gets to the gritty end. It'd still be a hell of an achievement to win it for a club our size.
I agree with it being an achievement..............and would certainly love to win it again. I was lucky to be at Wembley for our last FA win. I literally burst into tears when we won that game. I could never agree though if it were at the expense of our premier league place...........
Fair enough, I'd love to experience that myself and I would sacrifice that too so agree to disagree Probably easier decision for me in that I despise the PL anyway and wouldn't be all that bothered if I went down.
It’s the others. Seriously though, we are all buying into the thesis that winning the Cup and PL survival are mutually exclusive. I chose winning the cup for the purposes of this debate but we could always do both, and no doubt the team won’t be prioritising one above the other. One game at a time!
Anything else is really going to stretch our midfield. And our defence find it difficult to be in one place at the same time, let alone two. Yes, on balance, one game at a time is best for us. Although I wouldn’t put it past Sky to cook up another plan...
