I see JM got Sky and the Sponsor's MotM, but Hanley couldn't have been far behind. #AnotherShrewdSigning Edit - I'm not sure if Sky/BT has us down for any more televised games this season, but we haven't lost ANY of them this season!!! (in 90 minutes!!!) #fact
I've just added an edit on the MotM. Hanley for me but not by much. Without Hanley we'd have lost yesterday. I think JM has been MotM on every Sky match this year!
Hanley for me too. as much as JM was bright and looked by far our biggest threat, you cannot ignore, first that big Grant was excellent but also that he did something Madders couldn't and that was create a goal. I think this maybe why all the big boys kept their powder dry in January with Maddison, he is scoring goals and does create chances, but as the chief creator in a side not without talent, how good is he really if we next to never score more than one? And next to never create or score sitters? I think he is hampered by a system that is too defensive to ever score freely as are our poor strikers. But sometimes he is as guilty as the rest for slowing things down and leaving the oppo to get organsied in front of us. Bah!
The EDP had Murphy on player watch yesterday reflecting the strengths and weaknesses of his performance. It's a hard role of half striker, half winger he's being asked to play. I wonder how Hernandez would do in that role - Wolves may be his chance.
IMO, Hanley has been one of our best signings and Trybull/Leitner is another. I was wondering if JM had.been Sky MotM in each of our televised games. Edit - just seen this n the BBC text coverage of the game - Posted at90+6 mins FULL-TIME Norwich 1-1 Ipswich The craziest of crazy finishes. Mick McCarthy's face, cripes. If looks could kill. He looks furious - and so he might. His side have thrown away what would've been a first East Anglian derby win in nine years. Posted at90+5 mins GOAL: Norwich 1-1 Ipswich Timm Klose Would you believe it?! How on earth have Norwich rescued this?Grant Hanley keeps a long ball alive, turns and sends in the perfect cross for Timm Klose to head in from close range. Carrow Road explodes. The Norwich players wheel away in celebration. They've done it. Somehow, they've done it.
I agree, but JM did well considering how Ipswich set up to stop him playing. My hope is that Leitner will create better interplay and allow Madders to get the ball into the danger areas more quickly. As for Hanley, he used his burst of pace to prevent an almost certain goal early on. For a big man, he can turn it on over short distances, as he did to get to the ball at the end. He is turning out to be a great signing.
Hanley is putting his hand up to win the race for third maybe even 2nd in the PoTS vote. Madders has first sewn up, Gunn is a very probable second, but Hannley could yet catch him, but looks a shoe in on current form for top 3. Bah!
Hanley for me was MoM, he stopped an almost certain goal in the first half, his role in the goal was fantastic (not only did he retain a ball that looked almost certain to go out but also delivered an inch perfect ball, something most of our more attack focus players failed to do all game) and he was quality throughout not only in doing his job but also organising and covering for others. Klose did fairly well and of course he scored the goal, but also missed a sitter in the first half (if it had been on his left he would have probably scored). Maddison also did well, but I sometimes think fans perception of his ability is slightly ahead of his development curve. He was much better in the second half when he played further forward, however although both of his freekicks tested the keeper they were also almost identical and far to near the middle of the goal. Had either free kick been a meter to the left then he would have scored. Lewis also had a good game and for me he's ever much a prospect for the future as Maddison. We need to remind ourselves just how young and in experienced he is. I see a lot of fans moaning about how bad our performance was, but I don't think it was as bad as has been made out and I see lots of positives for next season. Ipswich didn't have that many chances and the nervy performances of Zimmerman and Gunn (who have been very good for us for a lot of the season) made several of there chances look much better than they were. The margins between losing, drawing and winning are really very small. A couple of meters to the left or the ball falling to a players left or a right footed player and we could have won by 2 or 3. For me the main negative was our attacking threat in open play. Murphy was ineffective for large periods of the game and seemed unsure of his role. Whilst Oliveira worked harder than he has in many games this season he spent far too much time behind the attacking play.
I think Hanley was close to MOTM before his efforts for the goal, in my opinion. After it, he was MOTM for me. He was so calm and composed and fought for everything. Just what we needed in the Derby. If MOTM hadn't already been handed out, I think he could have been given it.
100% agree and I can certainly see us staying in and around the top 10 next season, with the likes of Pinto, Hanley, Zimmerman, Raggett, Trybull, Lewis, Thompson, Godfrey (if he returns), Srbeny, Hernandez and perhaps 1 or 2 of the under 23s may be ready to step up; plus IF we sell JM, DF/SW SHOULD have a reasonable kitty to buy a few quality/experienced championship players to bolster the squad. Edit Just seen this - Mick McCarthy: Ipswich boss sorry for swearing after goal at Norwich. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43115833 PS - Great post canario!!
Spend some of the @least £20m from the sale of JM? Can’t see SW doing this. He will tell us that without parachute payments we need to be ambitious but cautious. Wasn’t there a mantra a decade or so ago along these lines?
It was the Gospel according to Doomcaster - Prudence with Ambition I think it was. Did us the world of good !!!
I was happy so see how bitter and P*ssed off he was, but at the same time, was p*ssed off with the clip they put on the BBC News. Mick saying "...and they score in the 5th minute of injury time...Where ever that came from!" From all the dives, fouls, subs, Ipswich Yellow cards, and over the top Ipswich celebrations. You f**king t*t! That's where! Bellend It's put on the news, and now anyone who didn't watch the match takes from that "Well, Ipswich obviously deserved to batter Norwich." Where as actually, I can't believe they got a draw, and were very lucky.
Exactly FML re the added time - the referee head to blow his whistle several times to get them back to the centre circle after a town player felled Tettey in the build up to their goal. Reminds me of Colin's reaction when we scored a last second winner against Derby!!!
I was a bit dubious when we signed Hanley, but he has really been a great signing and our whole defence is now PL quality IMO. Just hoping that Hernandez and Srbeny can do the same for our attack.
I can’t stop watching big Micks celebration after the goal telling the Ipswich fans to f**k off! I love it!
It is hilarious, he has been getting dogs abuse from the town fans for a while and he just snapped. The binners have a thread suggesting after that he would/should be fired. But I think Evans knows, there are few managers who will work under his restraints and continue to keep them up. That said with a record low attendance vs Burton and little left to play for the remainder of the season can he afford to keep MM with the levels of appathy towards the club? Bah!
IMO (and I know quite a few other posters) feel that in general the majority of our signings since SW/DF joined have done very well since 'getting up to speed' and I would say that Franke has been the one who's failed to make the grade. On the plus side, Hanley, Trybull and Leitner (I know he'll probably only be here until the end of the season), are proving to be first class recruits to the cause and could really help to push us up the league.
