Would love to win fa cup again

The championship isn't all that bad. Some big clubs, very competitive, genuine fans, thoroughly enjoyed it last time we were there.

It would mean a clear out of players but to be fair not a bad thing, as good as time as any for a clear out.

There is life outside of the premier league, in fact from the 36 fixtures only 14 are against the best in the world, the other 22 are against clubs in and out of the championship anyway.

Still get parachute money and would consider we would win a fair few games.

Get McQueen, Sims,Hesketh etc regular first team football. Players proud to wear the red and white.

Those knobs that sit at st Mary's slagging every pass, will instead still be in bed.

The passion for supporting saints won't diminish.

Sooner or later we`ll go down. Then we`ll come back up again! But winning the cup will be in the history books for ever. I was just as excited with a Saints win in league one as I am now in the prem. I don`t think we`ll go down this season, btw !

FA Cup all day long. The league we are in at any given point in time is frankly irrelevant. Win the FA Cup and it's forever.

Having said all that, of course I would like to stay in EPL, build on the progress we have made in recent seasons and be able to compete seriously on all fronts.

I went for the cup. What do we always talk about? 1976. It was our greatest moment and it would be good to see it again. If we went down I have decided we will bounce straight back up. :D

It is, for the moment. Paradoxically, I think that the additional money has been as much hindrance as help for many teams, because teams that once built around a specific style out of financial necessity now try to solve problems with a big-money striker or the like instead.

Look at Leicester, or ourselves, or Stoke. Each punched above their weight with a specific approach and the players to match. Each lost their way because their style got a bit muddled over changes in management and players. Stoke tried to go from a blood and thunder defensive team to a flair side and is now neither. Leicester spent a fortune on Slimani because they could, despite the fact that he made no sense in their setup. We...I still have no idea what we are trying to do, but it isn't the system we were supposedly instilling from top to bottom.

Which isn't a statement in favour of being cheap, but rather starting with a framework and finding players to match as if we were a poor team that just so happens to be exceedingly wealthy.

The other thread was more interesting and was warming up very nicely in fact I was just about to join in and put some fuel on the fire when it was closed.

As for the FA Cup it isn't what it was forty odd years ago.

The piece of silverware is the same but it's importance has been overtaken by the Champions League.

Probably because the champions league in its current form didn't exist then, and that's not overly relevant to us anyway.

Pretty sure back then the European Cup was the pinnacle to all the big clubs. But to clubs like us it's not really realistic whereas we could actually win the FA Cup again one day.
