Just about deserved I think. What a great goal. Not beautiful but reward for not giving up. Enjoyed that. Hope you didn't drop off Dave Sadly looks like both condemned to mid table. Enjoy the rest of your day Dave. Here at 6pm (5pm in blightie) my Cadiz have to win to stay in an automatic place. Well at least not lose. If I didn't have a dodgy knee after ground, bike, leg had a slight meeting I'd be there. But hopefully there will be a good stream. C'mon you gaditanos
Can't imagine a mining or fracking site creating a 4.4 earthquake. According to the Geographic survey guys a quake of this size occurs in the UK every 2 or 3 years so nothing very unusual. In 1906 that area had a quake of 5.5 And in 2008 there was a 5.2 in Lincolnshire. Sorry BB fracking not to blame this time
I think Swansea council have banned fracking there anyway haven't they so am not sure any has taken place. The UK experiences 20 to 30 per year anyway.
Shame really, but it was just a thought. I guess it would take more than a little earthquake to stop the fracking freaks anyway... I 'sat through' a 4.9 in Queensland about 20 years ago - that was scary enough, although it caused very little damage. Our house back then was an old Queenslander style, wooden construction built on stilts - I felt sure it was going to collapse around us, and I can remember feeling slightly sea-sick during it. Had to organise a safety inspection for our peace of mind later.
Scary stuff but I can imagine living in such a place being great fun. Do you have a photo? It is however interesting the buildings that do well in earthquakes. Those with give do well. Anything too rigid can suffer. It is like recently the big block in Taiwan which has largely remained complete but is toppling over. Only done Brisbane and Straddie in Queensland. You can see my Straddie friend the Koala to the left.
I am loath to comment for fear of how I might sound. I wouldn't wish a serious earthquake on anyone. Four point something is usually a pleasant little jolt, with no harm done but would be scary if you have never experienced it before. Anything six and above is really scary. Remember the scale is logryhmic so five is ten times greater than four. It is the seventh anniversary of our 6.3 in two days. That was unusual because of the vertical movement. The Richter Scale only measures lateral movement. We are still rebuilding and still fighting insurance companies. It's good to see people finding the funny side of it. The best comment I saw was that it was about time something exciting happened in Swansea.
If you mean of our old house, no photos, but I just snipped this from Google maps. One of the city's near-original homes, it was built in 1880 - the city was only founded in 1856.
Have these dangerous machines reached the UK yet? http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-43072501
Morning all, bright and sunny at present, but showers forecast for this evening. All of my friends at dinner yesterday were as confused by the weather this year as I am. One who earns his living as a gardener is unable to work due to the wet ground, but knows that when it dries up everyone will be wanting his services at the same time. That is life.
