The previous regime have been lambasted for gambling on Jimmy Bullard, at a wage that's not that big for the obscene amounts paid in the Prem. Had we stayed up, I doubt he'd be our highest earner.

So, a dilema shared with many other clubs but, with the current regime aware of some fans opinions on gambling, how do we make sure the incoming ones that some are shouting for are of a suitable standard, given we'll not pay high(ish) wages?

If we aren't prepared to compete with the newly promoted L1 teams (S'ton and Brighton) and some of the other clubs offering 'similar' amounts to us. I guess the only real opportunity of signing quality is signing players on loan from prem clubs that don't look like making the 25 man squad lists, and having their wages subsidised by the parent club.

I guess the Liam Roseniors of this world don't crop up too often. Gems without a club....

Didn't Blackpool have clauses in their players contracts that they would get an increase in salary if the club got promoted? Might be an incentive for possible players and current squad?

    Performance related pay.

The better you do, the more you get.

I suspect that may be how some are now paid, unlike the contracts given out by the cretins pre Allam.

i dont think we have the money to sign players who already have clubs, unless they are made available by their club. the only time we've really had a few million to spend was when we needed attacking players and NP brought in fryatt & mclean.. fryatt was worth the money i think but that other million+ could have been better spent i feel... Lallana or Lambert from southhampton, Austin, Le Fondre all look much better options.. hindsight is great eh..

We can't. Is the simple answer.

Though when we got promoted last time, how many players did we see as genuine quality when they signed? Okocha?

That won't attract decent players. Who's gonna take performance related pay if they can get a guaranteed income elsewhere? There aren't many.

All Championship players are effectively on performance related pay, there won't be a single club in the Championship that doesn't have Premier League wage increases built into their contracts.

We've normally struggled to get decent players in, such is the stigma of the city and the lack of history around the club. I know this was an issue in the PL where we struggled to attract players of a certain calibre so it's nothing new to the Pearson regime. Having a lot of money certainly helps, We saw that with Neil Danns.

Of course, potential signings could also think "Well I'm not going there, the second it goes wrong they'll force me out".

Not all players will, but i agree im sure some will which is a shame for the club. Wave money at it, wisely!
