I really don't understand what people are seeing. Alli got there first and was fouled. He didn't stick his leg out to initiate contact.
Well, you're obviously letting your bias against Alli cloud your judgement. Alli was too quick for the Rochdale defender and was fouled.
Unusual as it may be, I side with Tom on the penalty decision. I would be very disappointed if we were not given one in similar circumstances. I actually said to my wife. “I wonder how Alli feels getting a penalty for an actual foul, rather than by diving”.
The defender grounded his leg and then Ali threw his body up and over in, what is clear to a player, a dive. The contact came as Ali dived. I really don’t understand why you can’t see that. Actually I can understand.
Or referees who don’t play the game at a half decent level, don’t understand the little nuances and ‘clever’ cheating.
That's because we've been conditioned by the media and pundits like Shearer et all as to it being acceptable to play for penalties, initiate contact, entitled go down etc. It's sickening how it's so acceptable now.
Dive. Faintest of touches that would not make a 12st+ man fall over like he'd been shot let alone start that fall before the contact. Not as bad as Danny Rose's earlier one was though.
Have to say that was the loudest cheer from me as I jumped off my sofa when Rochdale equalised. Surprised myself because I don;t normally celebrate much when any other team scores (other = Saints or Lincoln) but after Alli cheating again it felt like a goal for truth, justice and football itself.
