Well with the coming departure of Joey Barton, it leaves us short in a another area - winger. We have Jonas, Ferguson & Marveaux with Ben Arfa playing behind the striker. Now that's not bad, but as soon as one of the wingers gets injured we're down to the bare bones, which is why I'd like another one in. Knowing that there is only a week left in the transfer window, I doubt MA will see the problem and sort it out, so it could be a potential problem for us this season imo :(

Oh and to add to the Barton situation, I think we'll be OK, he was never going to stay past this season early, and we have enough in Cabaye, Tiote, Gosling, Guthrie etc to cover it imo. <ok>

Gosling, Obertan, Vuckic and Abeid can all play on the wing.

Don't think we do need a winger, as you forgot Obertan in your list (who is a RM, not a LM). Abeid and Vuckic can also play as wingers if needed.

Its not an area we are in desperate need of strengthening (like ST and LB), but if another winger became available (someone of Barnetta's quality), then I wouldn't be against us signing them, but only if it didn't stop us signign players in positions we need them more in than wingers.

How the **** did I forget Obertan <doh>

I know that Vuckic & Abeid can play there, but what I'm saying is that I;d be worried if one of them had to start every game because of injuries which may happen if we get 1 or 2 injuries. Would just like a squad player tbh.

Sammi slipped down the wing nicely enough at Darlington and the end product was good. As long as we don't have a repeat of what followed, everything should be fine.

Replacing Barton is really not a priority at the moment. We need a left back as #1 priority, and a striker.

Midfield is probably the strongest area we have, so the loss of Barton is not as great as people seem to think.

Pardew seems to rate Lovenkrands as a winger <yikes> so I doubt he will have any intention of strengthening on the wing. Besides Barton was more of a RM than a winger.

Its quality that we've lost for me. Those being mentioned to fill the hole from within the squad do not have the required quality for me. But I'd rather we concentrated on the two signings which will make or break our season, LB and ST. Its a shame with Barton, we're not really in a strong enough position to lose players of that proven quality but they've made the decision they want rid and it was never gonna be changing for me. I feel sorry for Pardew who clearly wanted to keep him and thought he had a chance of brokering a peace deal.

No-one's mentioned Raylor? outrageous. e don't need to sign another midfielder IMO, even without Barton

I'm happy for us to prioritise LB and striker. Jonas and Marveaux are presumably our starters, with Obertan and Ferguson as cover, and if needed Raylor can do a job there (better than at full back anyway).

Surely everyone realised we signed Obertan because we wanted rid of Barton

There is no replacement coming...as he is already here.

To be honest they brought him in AFTER they told Barton to do one. Not quite a pre-emptive signing, but amazingly close.
