So for a number of reasons we have had problems off and on all season so far. We had Ekuban looking good in pre season but he gets a bad foot injury . He came back after 9 weeks out looked the real deal but without hitting the target, but then goes down with a bad foot injury again, out for a couple of more months and just come back again. He looked pretty mobile again and he really needs to score and keep fit or I'm afraid he will be known as sick note and not much good. A gamble for next season unless he impresses now. Roofe for me is a winger who sometimes can be devastating in front of goal. The system Leeds were playing under Tommy made Roofe look out of his depth as a lone striker, he scored a few but teams can handle him easy now and he wont score many more as a lone striker. I would offload in the Summer as we have better options up front and on the flanks. Lassoga came with a big reputation and had a good record before picking up a bad injury. We took him on and he started with 2 great goals from nowhere against a shell shocked Burton, he went on to score another 3 times before his form dropped. He had a partner in Germany who had just had a baby, he stayed with the team instead of going home, but it seems a fall out with Tommy set the rot in. Many fans turned against him and it looked like he was a fat lazy version of a striker. He brought his fiance and baby over to Leeds, his form picks up and he scores another great double in a freak game against Milwall. Fans can see the real Lassoga again. Tommy gets sacked and it seems Lassogas mood lightens and in another humbling performance a stand out performance and goal against the blunts. 8 goals in 14 games is good anywhere. This week he has hinted he would like to stay in Leeds next season as he 12-mth left with Hamburg. I think he knows he is in the shop window and we are in a win win position. If he scores us a shed load in the next 15 games the Germans will want him back, and indeed German clubs will want him. It will also mean we get a choice too and pick him up for £2m and negotiate a wage deal that doesnt cripple our wage cap. On the wage cap issue, Radz said that the club would be willing to break it for the right player. That means a player who is guaranteed to score and has a sensible transfer fee and would accept a sensible salary. Grabban, Hugill & Martin were all spoken about but in the end it was silly salaries with a silly transfer fee, so not worth the risk. Lassoga would be cheap to buy and will be sensible on the salary and if our cap is £15k per week Radz should be willing to go to £20 or £25k for guaranteed goals. Tyler Roberts a player we wont see until next season now. A good price but a gamble for a 19yo. PH wanted him at Barnsley and was looking forward to playing him for Leeds. PH had a meeting with him early in the week and said he wanted to start playing him off the bench and starting him for the first half of some games, so that he could get used to the intensity of the league. The next day he is crocked and out, next Summer now though So what are peoples views on next season. For me Roofe needs to go and if Caleb Ekuban doesn't start scoring he too needs to go and get his career back. Ekuban besides the season before he joined us has never been a prolific striker, but looks like Orta took a gamble because he scored 16 goals in 24 games before we got him. Flash in the pan?, I hope not because he does look the part, he needs fitness and goals or gone. The Nigerian from Seria B seems to be a joke for me. Never mind the fact there are passport problems which usually mean the player is well over 30yo, but his record is dire, no other way to say it. He 25 in the league top scoring charts for the Italian B league, with 5 goals all season. Dont be fooled by thinking that its tough to score in that league because the top 10 are all in double figures and a couple at the top have almost 20 already. His assists record is poor too so thats obviously not in his game either. If Lassoga does the business and we get the chance to get him I would take it but he needs service and under Tommy he didnt get it. Roberts will give us an option next season but obviously not for a while. If Ekuban starts doing it we have a good base with Lassoga, Ekuban and Roberts. Grot isn't getting enough game time with the U23s so dont see how he comes into the reckoning unless he has a fantastic close season. So whatever happens we need to buy a good striker
Roofe for me is the opposite is what you describe. He is ineffective on the wing, he’s a goal scorer But probably not what we need in that position so he’s a player to bring on as sub alongside a big man, otherwise we should let go
We need a head coach that is better than the failure we just hired, a goal keeper that isn’t a liability, a centre half, two proper defensive midfielders that know what it’s about. Two wingers, a centre forward, and four or five others to replace Orta ****e. Next season is already a write off as Rad either doesn’t have the cash or the aptitude.
The whole idea about posting a thread on here is so people can debate. I respect Chippies views but even he doesnt believe that.and 2020 sees Roofe, wingers and strikers different from me which is ok too. It would be good to hear from people who can make suggestions as to which strikers if any we should bring in knowing the budget we work with. Think it will be an overseas striker if we get one as even League 1 players are asking for £7m which is a joke Still think Alex Prijovic is a bargain as it looks like he refused to to go to Nice in the January window. He actually said he wanted to go to Leeds but feared Nice would get him first. 20goals in 34 games for Salonika in the Greek League. Lets hope Orta has eyes on a bargain and it isnt the Nigerian....
Looks like a complete rebuild again for next season. Would keep saiz, viera, Forshaw, Pontus, Pennington. The rest I'm afraid are just not good enough and never will be (not counting the young lad roberts as I haven't seen him yet, but I seriously doubt he's going to be prolific). I'm thinking Mr Radrizanni has majorly ****ed up this season dishing out 4 year contracts to bang average players and it's going to cost him. If it's true were signing the likes of that guy from Capri then I agree with glory next season is done before it starts. Tomorrow will be a bit of a wake up call for the heirachy looking at the amount of unsold seats for the game. Reckon it's going to be 6-7 thousand down on previous game and who can blame the fans after the ****e that was served up against Cardiff. Giving it a miss myself and haven't even been able to give my tickets away for the game. Just sums up another disappointing season.
I do believe that. So will you by May... Not a hope in hell of Rad paying enough to get a proven striker in. We either discover one or we do without.... Sorry if you didn’t want my input I will refrain from further comment on this thread.
we have in my opinion the decent full backs for this league.need two more centre backs and a proper goalie.two center mids and a striker with some bloody pace.
agree roofe should be in the middle playing off a big guy.he can score goals so should be kept for the squad next season.fully expect him to be with us too.
yeah but think of the money ...or maybe he will find the goal again.must admit that F.A cup miss was a shocker.but did not hear many complaints when he was scoring.
I think he can score goals Just not the player to lead the line so unless we play 2 up he is an impact sub
thinking about docs original question... a few seasons back some very good strikers came from lower leagues.peterboro sold one to brighton????? swindon had a couple besides barn door billy, simon cox was one.alf from rotherham we could have bought. seems to me we can say this that or the other player is what we need but...........if rads wants to keep the gate money flowing the he will have to spend more as 7 million is peanuts these days.how much did newcastle pay for Gayle.
agreed but we could do worse so keep him.rotation and squad quality is what we need.Derby have let russel go to mls soccer.winnal who they loaned from sheff weds (what were they thinking?) is out injured.if the gate drops by several thousand then he must invest to keep the money coming in.
Wakey makes a good point as we had chances to sign strikers like Long, Grant Holt, Rickie Lambert and guess what the teams who signed them all got promoted to the Prem and thats what we need now or we have no chance. Ulloa I notice has just scored for Brighton to day and hes available as hes on loan right now. The wage cap must be broken for the right striker
Roofe has proved over the last few games that he just hasn't got the stomach for it first chance he gets and he's off probably why he was released from west brom. Attitude more important than ability
what are you on about???? he was taken off as a precaution for a bang on the head.he came off as that crap holiday rep of a coach asked who was tired .don't put the bad coaching and tactics put you off players.
