http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/articles/team-news-240811.html Harry Redknapp looks set to give youth a chance as we face Hearts in the second leg of our Europa League play-off at the Lane on Thursday night. A fine performance at Tynecastle last week means we go into the tie 5-0 up from the first leg. With a number of injuries to contend with and another huge Premier League fixture to follow against City on Sunday, Harry reported before training on Wednesday that Andros Townsend, Harry Kane and Tom Carroll all come into the picture for the second leg against Hearts. "It's a great opportunity for them," said Harry. "It will be a great experience for them to play in a European game at White Hart Lane and it will give me the chance to have a look at them up against good opposition." It won't be a new experience for winger Andros, who made a spectacular full debut for us last season when he scored in the FA Cup against Charlton. He also came off the bench in the first leg at Tynecastle and helped set-up the fifth goal. Forward and regular Spurs XI goalscorer Harry was on the bench for a Carling Cup tie against Everton back in October, 2009 but it will be the first time midfielder Tom has made it into the final 18-man squad. Both impressed in loan spells at Leyton Orient last season and Tom played his part as the Os took Arsenal to a replay in the FA Cup. Tom Huddlestone (ankle) and Luka Modric (hamstring) remain doubtful while Ledley King (knee), William Gallas (calf), Danny Rose (ankle), Wilson Palacios (knee), Sandro (knee) and Steven Pienaar (groin) are all still sidelined. Better news sees Jermaine Jenas back in the frame after an Achilles problem. ------- Be good to see Harry Kane, I got high hopes for him in the future.
I'd probably go with two up front and play Kane alongside Pavlyuchenko. I wonder if Hearts will field a full-strength side?
We all know what Defoe, Crouch and Pav can do though, scoring in a game like that could be good for their confident but then back to the PL and they will once again be about as useful as an ashtry on a motorbike.
"Better news sees Jermaine Jenas back in the frame after an Achilles problem." ...zimmer frame?...bit harsh being pleased about injury! ------- "Be good to see Harry Kane, I got high hopes for him in the future." ...be the first time I've seen this lad if he gets on. Leaps and bounds doesn't seem to do the last 12months justice, from what i read deserves this chance, so yeah looking forward to that too.
Looking at tickets for tinight. Spurs reserves v Hearts reserves - £43. What a joke. Shouldn't there be an offer?
Interesting team! Spurs XI v Hearts: Cudicini; Corluka, Bassong, Dawson, Townsend; Fredericks, Huddlestone, Livermore, Carroll; Pavlyuchenko, Kane.
We're kind of taking the piss a bit with that side, aren't we? We should still progress and I guess it's a good experience for the kids, but it's a little insulting to Hearts. Still no Modric. Is Gomes injured or should we take this to mean something? Not happy at being left out in the league, perhaps?
I just think that he's overdone it a little, Ensil. Our injury problems are already a concern, I suppose. Where are half of our squad? If we're not selling them, then we need to bloody use them.
Who are the 6 full internationals in our starting line-up, Ensil? Having 6 on the bench is a little irrelevant too, as we can only use half of them. Glad to see Assou-Ekotto being given a break, though. He was run into the ground last season.
Those that are following the fate of the other British teams will be sad to hear that Celtic have somehow managed to get a man sent off and given away a penalty in the first few minutes. It's been converted, too. FC Sion 1-0 Celtic (1-0 agg)
I'd play almost anybody that we don't want to have the **** kicked out of. If the first leg was anything to go by, there'll be a few "robust" tackles flying around tonight!
True, NSIS. I think that this just emphasises our injuries and lack of completion in the transfer market, though. We could virtually field a team of the players that we want rid of but haven't sold.
Interesting that there's still no Jenas - fingers crossed he's on his way out. Still, he'll probably have a blinder for whomever he signs for against us (QPR!), presuming that its not a loan deal.
