Les Reed has always rubbed me the wrong way. Even when we were doing great and it was impossible to argue with the results, I still only grudgingly admitted he'd done a decent job. So I'd be happy if he were gone though admittedly I'm biased. Krueger.... I have no idea. He doesn't seem to be involved in the football side of things so I question how much he is to blame. OTOH, I've said already I think we need a fresh start so yeah if he goes, he goes. I really don't think firing Pellegrino is going to help matters much at this point. And with our status in flux, I don't know what happens with the new manager. If we go down, do they get sacked as well? What if we stay up and then fire Reed? The new director would surely want to bring their own man in.
The problem with Krueger is that, in doing nothing, whoever runs the football side effectively does it without supervision. Now, the same could be said of a strong Cortese-like chairman, but if we're moving away from that, it'd be nice to have a setup where one person is not a petty king. Given the frontloading of our remaining schedule, it's entirely possible that firing Pellegrino is becoming progressively less useful. Fail to beat Burnley and Stoke and they probably turf him, but at that point we effectively have to i) find a new manager, ii) have them get up to speed, and iii) take something like 7 points in three matches over their first three weeks. Not really a mark in favour of the inaction of the board, so much as an indication of the corner they have painted themselves into.
I think you'll find that that is called a form 'myopia'....... you only see, what you want to see! Who then would you 'blame' for bringing into the club a succession of players & coaches - some good, some bad, some bluddy brilliant! But hey, if having a 'selective memory' is your bag then so be it.
I don't think anyone is "arguing" over the "job" Reed did. There is no "selective memory" over the last "four" windows though and "football" is a very fast moving "business" so not doing well for "two" years is easily enough time to lose your job.
Sadly, you are (also) just confirming that sort of apparent myopia..... Just this time last year, Saints were on the cusp of 'Wembley Euphoria' and, in case you have forgotten, the club had picked up a certain Gabbiadini (!) who, subsequently, started scoring for fun. The two major injuries, skewed things somewhat; as did the poor showing by the team (post finals day) but an 8th position, in the circumstances, was creditable. However, I firmly believe that the team were 'shafted' at Wembley and, as consequence, never recovered from that disappointment; leading to the malaise experienced in their play /games thereafter. Hardly the 'fault' of "the business" as you call it.
I agree we had a "decent" season last year, but there was still the "small matter" of not "replacing" Mane and Pelle effectively. Which "led" to not scoring anywhere near as "many" goals and the fans discontent. This falls on "Les Reed" and the board. And whatever "side of the fence" you sit on regarding Puel the board also ****ed up there, either by hiring him or firing him.
If we go down, how quickly will Reed be sacked? The last home game of the season could be horrible for the board.
Are you seriously suggesting that our current league position is due to the team still being overcome with disappointment at not winning at Wembley a whole year ago and under a different manager? If so, that is just nonsensical. Professional footballers of any quality at all simply don’t react that way, losing a cup final is traumatic but not devastating. Do you not think the board have behaved like headless chickens since Koeman ran out on them? Do you not think that certain elements of “fans” panicked them into firing Puel and hiring Pellegrino, who hadn’t exactly covered himself with glory as a manager? How do you see their transfer strategy of selling our best players for vast profits and not reinvesting the money? Apart from Lemina, who is top class, Hoedt, who looks vulnerable, and Carrillo, who is yet to prove himself, who have they bought to back Pellegrino?
Ah, the 'moving the goal posts gambit' You must let the others on this site know where this 'player supermarket' is, 'cos you obviously believe that picking up quality replacements is a 'walk in the park experience' where you just stroll in, select your puchase and pay at the till! Was Austin not purchased as the 'replacement' for Pelle, who had indicated that he wanted to 'chase the bucks' in China? Mane was / is/has been harder to replace but, hey, he only scored ONE more goal that Shane Long did!
Another things fans forget is just how many players that they suggest that don't come that good at another team that buys them. How big a squad we would have if we purchased all the fans' suggestions. And we have no idea how much effort is put in to bring in players who in the end decide to go elsewhere....everyone assumes that Saints just didn't try hard enough....sometimes players just go elsewhere and no amount of money would make them swap A for B.
So very true! How many of the 'blinkered ones' were hollering for the club to 'push the boat out' and do 'whatever it takes' to secure Sturridge from the 'Liverpuddle Sick Bay' Seems to be working out well for WBA, no goals to date, and, quelle surprise, injured (again) and out for several weeks.
Mmm, so the 'Pellegrino backing' was non-existent (Carrillo excepted) despite publically going 'all out' for Theo Walcott (not that I would have been keen on him coming) then having the rug pulled out from under them with the last minute about turn by the Russian club! As previously posted, where is this 'player supermarket' that has PROVEN QUALITY players that are just waiting there for a contract?
There isn't one, obviously. What there is however is a whole world of footballers and people at Saints whose job it is to find players for the team. What is PROVEN is that our squad is seriously lacking pace and an effective wideman, every transfer is a gamble but by signing nobody they haven't gambled and have left the squad in the same state as the one that has us in this situation in the first place.
I doubt that 33 points equals safety - thats a very low number trouble is all our relgation rivals are showing signs of being able to survive by their results. For example huddersfield won 4-1 at the w/e. I would say West Brom are the only team worse than saints at present
Do you mean the pace offered by someone like Nathan Redmond? Tore Liverpool to shreds (last season in Lge.Cup semi) but it seems that the 'boo boys have succeeded in destroying his confidence (arroagance?) and, dare I say it, hardly a gamble. England U21 International, contributed goals, just a few fewer than Mane, and created chances for others. Just saying
One win, whilst useful, doesn't indicate that a club is in form....we know that! I don't take Huddersfield's result to mean they are suddenly better than us.
Whether you think his confidence has been destroyed by the boo boys/he just isn't very good/he is playing under instructions from Pellegrino doesn't really matter. He hasn't been effective this season (and for large parts of last season as well). We are in serious danger of going down and all the problems that come with that financially for the club. So "well we did try" doesn't really cut it as far as getting in somebody last window. As I said before football is a very fast moving, ruthless business. If you aren't very good for not that long a period of time people will start asking questions. The reverse works as well where being good for a short period of time suddenly makes you amazing.
I think you are the only one doing that sadly. Reed started of doing well, but has for a while wielded too much power. Reed bringing in mates instead of actually looking for people. Reed doing various dodgy things behind the scene. Then also sacking Puel when there was no need and bringing in Pellegrino who is far worse. Add all that to player recruitment being bad for the last 2 seasons, it is time for him to go The bad outweighs the good he has done now
