From memory, he became first choice after Cooper left (or was it the other way round). Was a decent player. Went to Wolves then had a long-term injury after about 1 game. Hamstring or broken leg or something.
Actually he left Luton by mutual consent as he'd been injured for over a year (had been player of the season previous year & got an extended contact) ~ now medically retired due to recurrent knee (?) injury. * Was El Brownio's first signing ~ I always thought he was one to develop (his actual best position = central midfield holding player) ~ though his first season we 'surprisingly' we got promoted to 'The Big League' He was often played out of position in defence (remember him getting run ragged against Sunderland) ~ then we just started buying 'players' / not bringing m/any through & let him leave ...
About 15 years ago Derby County has two youngsters that were tipped for the very top - Nathan Doyle and Tom Huddlestone. It can be a harsh sport.
That was the game I started to believe that we were going up. The football was terrific. Absolutely outclassed them in every department.
When we first signed him he was introduced in members bar that under the stands what was it called? He spoke perfect and eloquent english but i think he still had a few months before he could play for us. The thing i loved was the chant we had for him
That game vs TWS was one of the last truly great games at the KC I remember us having in the past few years, we were amazing that day, could've easily won by 6 or 7. Even Colin ****er post-match did nothing but praise us. I always liked Evans. Thought he was a pretty decent player. Still at Blackburn I believe.
Stewart and Henriksen might come into this category in years to come although Henricksen did start looking better recently, probably too little too late. The Hull Daily Mail made me laugh today when I read an article which suggested Stewart needs to 'hit the gym' as if that would sort him out, to me he looks like a League 2 type player who we have paid ridiculous money for because we couldn't get anybody else.
Doesn't really qualify because he only played 8 games but one of the shortest (and least memorable from a footballing perspective) footballers I ever saw was Paul Wharton. Came from TWS at same time as Stoker I believe. As an aside, and possibly for another thread, whilst trying to remember Wharton's name; came across the name of Richard Fidler(?) who apparently made one substitute appearance for us and that was the sum total of his professional career - anyone remember him?
Do other people not think we got Stewart and Kingsley for next to nothing agreed as part of the Robertson and Clucas deals but then announced a short while later at vastly inflated fees to make it appear as if the owners are ambitious? Or is it just coincidence that we signed 2 **** players from clubs we’d just sold to at what appears to be ‘ridiculous money’?
