Perry was a good lower league player who put himself about for the City, and was revered for it. Not sure why or how he was capped but in those days if you were welsh or had a welsh 3rd cousin removed you had a chance of a cap.
From what I can remember, it was a volley from about 35 yards into the goal at the Fratton end, one of the few goals he scored for us, and all the others were with his head, as far as I can remember.....................though thinking about it he took a few penalties, I'm sure others will enlighten us Don was a right monster on the park, in the Tommy Smith, Ron "Chopper" Harris mould, but a good guy off the field, the word "uncompromising" sums him up, the ball would often go past Don, or the player would often go past Don, very rarely would both the ball amd the player go past him..........he would have been lucky to stay on thr pitch for 5 minutes in todays game, but a nice bloke, he would visit his victims in hospital with a bunch of grapes........and often attended the funerals! Seriously he could play a bit as well and was only kept out of the Scottish team by Billy McNiell the Celtic captain of the "Lisbon Lions" and a great centre half IMO......................Don Murray could have gone onto bigger abd better things, than CCFC were in those days, but a great loyal club servant with over 400 appearances
