So, I live in a school district that has school choice for the kids. Which is just as well because schools here suck- so need to get kids into the better programs. My son was interviewing to get into a.program with a high school next year... This is his second choice school (if his first choice is full this is where he put #2 on his list). I wanted to smack him when he told me how he answered some questions they asked: Why do you want to come to this school? -I don't remember why I chose this school. I have bad memory. If you could put anything into a time capsule what would it be? - A taco, so I could laugh thinking about the people opening the time capsule and seeing it. If I didn't know better I'd think he was trying to fail the interview part... . Hope he gets in his first choice high school because I don't think he'll get his second choice after that.
I must admit, I had a laugh about it but I hope it doesn't come back to bite him. He has high functioning autism, he's extremely intelligent, but because of the autism he tends to say what he thinks rather than what he should. His responses are often inappropriate to questions. His facial expressions frequently don't convey that he's joking when he is too... So its sometimes hard to read when he's joking or serious. Thankfully there was a writing portion (something he is good at) to the application process and they look at test scores and grades too. If it's based on the interview alone he won't get it at any of the good programs.
wouldn't they know he was in the ASD spectrum & therefore make "allowances" ? If they fail him just start shouting about the ADA
The school district knows he's on the spectrum. Not sure if the people deciding who gets into which programs do or not, and how that impacts their decisions.
They must do surely. Or what is the point in just the school district knowing if people making decisions on kids are oblivious.
He has an IEP with the school... Which stands for something like individual education plan. They do make special allowances for him. He doesn't have to go to "pep rallies" for one because he has sensorary issues. Pep Rallies are a hideous creation that I hope never make it across the Atlantic to the Uk. Essentially an obnoxious assembly where they play loud music and scream about how good the school is and how they're going to smash another school in a sporting event... Etc...etc...etc... They're also supposed to check with him to make sure he understands what he needs to do with assignments. He is very literal so he will literally do what an assignment says to do... No less... No more, so they are supposed to be precise in their assignments to him (or make allowances when he does something that is literal to what they asked him to do).
americans don't have milkmen or plumbers. those rich ****s have pool boys or gardeners to service their wives.
Going to sound strange but I hope Boris keeps this up. We so need this govt to collapse on the brexit issue. Only issue following that would be pressuring Labour to have a clear defining anti brexit view. If you can't achieve that then there isn't a strong enough case for a second referendum. But even if Brexit remains this govt has to go. It literally can't deliver it because it literally doesn't have a clear idea what it even wants. Christ this has to be a nadir of leadership across all the parties not seen for decades. I can't think of any person here or on the mainland I have confidence in governing.
So much of what Johnson says betrays his true feelings and what he wishes he could say e.g. the V sign comment. Of course that's what a large part of it was, possibly it was only that, especially the actual Leave campaign in the run-up to the vote, it was just ignorant and poorly informed reactionary stuff. Hopefully this government will undo themselves but that relies on a late proportion of voters and the public to acknowledge this which personally I don't have much faith in happening as people always accept the status quo or are too dumb to have an informed take on it Labour are Brexit through and through right now, publicly and politically at least. If changing that stance becomes a viable form of winning an election then I can see a shift but that's the only chance of it because all they care about in the meantime are parliamentary affairs and gaining influence there. Ok there's a slight civil war there between Remain and Leave but that would be as much of a mess as the Conservatives inability to define any kind of route through this situation Completely agree on your final comment, the array of MPs and prominent political figures is at an absolute low, very very few of them have any finesse, professional faculty or credibility
Frankly its obvious brexit is a mess and its obvious there are reams of reports hidden under May's desk showing the calamity that will occur. The reality is There is a boom globally. https://euobserver.com/economic/139825 Most of the issues in the uk are related to the value of the pound. Inflation. Some of the issues are about uncertainty but in large part if you are lump in with greece you know you must be in trouble no? anyway... Doe this matter to borsi.. nope no t a jot. he is solely interested in no .10 which is so deluded that its a joke. if the brexiteers have nobody else than that clown to turn to then they really are in trouble as a party.
Lots of children/teens spout out the expected answer to these type of questions ''because it's the best school ....' etc.etc . If I was on the interview panel I'd mark your boy high for his honesty and humour.
What's this betting board bollocks? ............anything to do with the fact I can't 'like' a post now? Keep getting 'undefined index'
