Why does he need to win this year? there are new editions and he needs to rotate the squad, I will not be calling for his head if we don't win the league as long as we play entertaining football as we did on Sunday and the players all put in a shift, RM has nothing to prove to me and i imagine our fans feel the same.
I'm sure City and all those associated with them think that they're building a squad of world beaters, but the truth is far from it. As mentioned many times before, it'll be impossible to please that many players that'd easily get first team football elsewhere. I sense an implosion in the not too distant future
Mancini has built a premiership, champions league and fa cup winning side easily, unfortunatly hes not playing football manger 2010. In real life, theirs more to building a consistantly winning team than paying millions for a player in each position with little to no recognition of the teams playing style or dynamic. City will win trophies or come very close but they will never be a trult great side with Mancini at the helm.
I agree with this on reflection. While Real aren't as weak in their weakest area as Barca are in theirs, they aren't as strong in their strongest area. To give it a numerical value, you might say Barca's defence is a 7/10 and their attack and midfield a 10/10, averaging out at 9/10, while I'd say Real are probably 8 in defence, 8 in midfield and 9 up front (counting Ronaldo as a forward) so average just a little less.
I agree, they are far from 'there' and they have a lot to prove, but they definately have good players and PO-tential to steal a word from Arsene Wenger's supporters. I can't say I agree on the implosion, I think that is more firmly rooted in wishful thinking rather than indication. They have the staff to challenge, it is IF they can put it together on the turf as a cohesive unit week in week out. Will the stars fancy the not so glamorous ties on damp mornings ect.. They certainly gave ye a run for yer money a couple of times and they weren't even playing all that well either. its the usual balancing of egos you get when a bunch of high earners get together, the dust has to settle a little before you can move on, they have progressed and are expected to even further this season, I reckon if they are in it till the last couple of games and do well in the CL Mancini will be quite safe and the fans happy, but the owner?
The response from the Utd fans on this thread tells you City have a strong squad and United are worried.
I find it very funny that Man City can not keep all the players of the squad happy becaus e there are 2 many good players in that squad. However over the last 10yrs the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and the rags have had the same problem and managed that quite well. So where is the problem, there isn't 1. So my guess is that youwho say there is a problem are really worried that we will be coming after taking over your spot, i.e. that we will be Premier League Champions very soon. You never know maybe even Champions league winners thrown in.
As I Utd fan I am not too worried about City, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. All I said was that City have a huge squad, many of whom are on big wages and will be unhappy at not playing. If City try to move some players on which they are attempting to do so, other teams will not be very keen to continue with the high salaries and as a result, City will struggle to off their dead wood. Not rocket science.
I dunno - I spoke to a City fan a few weeks back and he said he felt City basically finished 2nd last year (cos you were only 3rd on GD). So when you include the FA Cup win he felt that the only way for you to improve this season was to win the league, and if you failed to win it he'd want Mancini out. His view won't reflect that all of City fans, but he was no glory hunter - he was in his 40s or 50s, a long term season ticket holder and a properly knowledgeable fan which shows just how high expectations have gotten for some City fans over the last three years. I think the difference between City now and Utd over the last twenty years is that Utd have always had a core of players who were happy to play squad roles. If you look at someone like Solskjaer for Utd, whilst his career goalscoring record is pretty similar to that of Tevez, he was more than willing to be a squad player for Utd for over ten years. Whereas if Tevez even gets subbed he starts getting antsy. It's a similar story with players like O'Shea, Brown, Phil Neville, Sheringham, Berg, Fletcher and Park. All of those players have played vital squad roles for Utd, and even been first choice players for their country, whilst not being first choice at Utd. Will players like Balotelli, Dzeko, Richards, Milner, Johnson and maybe even De Jong or Toure be willing to play reduced roles at City in order to fit in the new players and more expansive play needed for City to win the title? I don't think City are going to implode or anything that far fetched, but I do think the ability of the manager to control the dressing room is key to realising the performance of any squad. Just look at the difference between Dalglish and Hodgson at Liverpool last year to see how much of a difference the support of the players can make.
The way i look at it is we finished in the top 4 and got into the CL, people said we finished joint second but we didn't we were third, if we don't win the title this year i will not be calling for RM;s head as long as we play entertaining football and he carries on playing attacking football not defensive football as he has been guilty of in the past.
