Zaha injured for Palace is a big blow for them. Spurs win easily imo.

I'd prefer a draw in the Chelsea v Utd game....if we win we'd gain 2 points on both rivals rather than 3 om just one of them.

But that's a big 'if'. If WHU come and try to park the bus, we need to pray for an early goal or some Salah magic.

 

Zaha should be on of their primary outlets in terms of pace to break away from their deep defensive line.

Spurs have the goals i nthem to beat them. While palace are falling back into it thier situation is not yet serious enough that players will put their bodies o nthe line to block shots and die for the cause etc etc.

I agree though.. first chance must be scored. Against southampton firmino took that shot first time and got it right. another day and its wide, at keeper or blazed over. the same can be said of all three front men. We need a genuine chance and NEED to take it. then the game should open up for us.

my main isuse is consistency with us.

It is a matter of priorities and working out risk of losing out. 50% more places available to win (funny way of using stats!) but 4 teams instead of 3 (50% more rivals: 3 instead of 2 . If we assume all chances to be equal, then it is 2/3 against 3/4 which is NOT 50% increase in chance. But they will prove not to be equal as the teams behind are at a disadvantage as matches start to run out. That is why I would like to put as much distance as possible between us and those behind us. Having said all that, Chelsea will probably go on to beat the mancs at OT.

 

I think we should assume 3 points for Spurs which would take them to 55
Chelsea would be hoping for 1 point and 3 will be a bonus: 54
The mancs are on 56 and will be hoping for 3 but they probably will get one: 57

We should be able to get 3 points against the Whammers. 1 point will be a disappointment but Moyes will be very satisfied with that: 57? Best sceanrio after the round: joint second (either with Chelsea or the mancs) Worst: 5th (!) even if we draw.

We have Van dijk. We have Salah, firmino is linking well with him.

If we can keep those guys working without injury and van dijk reduces the goals against we can get there.

That's all we can do - trying to predict the permutations of other teams' results to see how many points we need is frankly crazy.

Then they'd deserve a win if they get it. However, not many teams attack and defend equally well.

At the risk of irrittating Saint (I said I would start a brawl ), Will we need at least 78 points and will we get them? Just hope we won't need that total and rival teams drop points. For me the worry is Spurs and Chelsea who may both go on a winning run as they recover their form.

The sensible thing is to take one match at a time. But where is the fun in being sensible?

 

I think we should worry about ourselves and the rest will take care of itself.

There is no magic number for CL spots as it varies each season with the form of all clubs competing.

If we do our job it won't matter what others do.

If we don't then we only have ourselves to blame.

We got ourselves in this position. Let's capitalise on it.

 

You are absolutely right of course. But like everything in a league we are not judged in a vacuum. Everything we do is relative to others. We may go on a good run but if Chelsea and others go on better ones we are stuffed. Hence the speculation and the "dreaming" on this thread. Isn't the purpose of this thread to keep an eye on others?

Anyway shows how much real work some of us are doing in order to spend time on here speculating and projecting
