Exactly this. Watching us at times thus season I've lost count of how often I've looked at us and thought "there's just no imagination". It's arguably our biggest problem and he's the only player we have who shows some.
Although I went yesterday expecting a lost, I was full of hope & excitement that we could pull off a draw or maybe even a win. Said though, an absolute must was a good performance. Sadly Saints ticked our usual boxes of gifting a goal, being totally inept in front of goal but I never expected the insipid 2nd half performance. I said in an earlier post the only positive was Lemina's performance but I should also include, getting away with a just 2 goal deficit. How the **** Liverpool didn't add is beyond me. Good for us though!
Think they just treated it as a run in the park really. They saw that we hadn't emerged for the second half so conserved energy for Porto.
Lemina would walk into their midfield. It’s currently Can, Ox and Wijnaldum. Ask any Liverpool fan - they don’t rate their midfield at all. Their attack is extraordinary, their defence is better now they have VVD. Their midfield is bog average.
I do think the team need something to give them a boost....either a carrot or a stick. A few days somewhere....just to give a change of scene or a bit of bonding. A golf day or waterboard them....anything to produce a change.
I think we were undone by not realising they had two up top. Secondly, the stupid errors in defence early in the game had a tremendous effect on the team. You could almost visualise their shoulders dropping with not again attitude. The first big mistake cost us very dearly as far as moral is concerned, when Liverpool scored their 1st. To be fair some kept going but the majority did not.......Why the manager keeps changing players week in week out is a total bloody travesty. He gets a good playing side playing for each other and things work then changes it the next week even though there was no injuries. No saints side this season has had the same players two weeks running. Sorry, the manager is an idiot for not realising that if he finds a side that works why not let them play together for a while get used to each others movement. By keep changing the side he is losing the impetus that is how we were more successful in the past and is the only way we are going to get ourselves out of trouble. However the idiot of a manager is not going to see it that way.......Championship here we come. The only good thing about that will be hopefully we won't have an idiot for a manager!!!! Ok Rant over......
Any takers for wba thread? I'll do one if not but have had a go this season so thought I'd see if anyone else fancied it first.
So reflecting on the game after a nights sleep and I'm not too down about it. Yeah the second half was crap but the goal just before half time when we were playing pretty well was a sucker punch and clearly knocked the life out of the team. I said before the game just not to get battered and we did that (all be it relying on Liverpool not being really at it). Hoedt is frustrating as he had a really good game I thought, bar the error which led to the goal which means he had a crap game really. If he could cut out the stupid errors he would be a really good centre back (obvious yeah?), atm he is like a Dutch Titus Bramble, very good defender 90% of the time but his **** ups seem to lead to goals all the time and that is at the end of the day what people notice and what matters the most. As others have said the next 5 league games are the big ones and will pretty much decide our fate, I'm not too optimistic about them and think we will get about 4 points, but I'm always like that so wouldn't read too much into it.
the newsapers are all fairly daming of our performance the owners all watched the game togther in China Surely, surely they must be thinking that we are going down with this manager there is no logic for sticking with him - i am genuienly baffled by it
