Just back. At least I won't have to spend hours on a new thread. Maybe we lost as I ran out of letters.... Gifted a goal, then conceded a great one...off a poor Bertrand corner. Second half, we just didn't turn up. Lemina good again, until subbed (he threw up twice the pitch and was unwell). Davis...Davis? 2-0 down and chasing the game and MP2 answer is Davis. That is all PS - if we want to continue the cup run I can do the cup threads until Wembley if needed.
I think bringing Davis on as the third substitute was crazy. We needed to try to play more offensively with two players on the bench that 'could' have at least helped in that regard. Davis was not even a consideration for me. I can only assume Pellegrino was trying to protect goal difference but even then it's a stupid substitute to make.
If we ever do get round to making a change, I think (if I was Les or Ralph) I would have my opening question as: if you're losing 2-0 down at home, with one substitute left, who do you pick to come on between Yoshida, Davis, Redmond and Gabbiadini? I can't imagine many people would have done the same.
He has to persevere with that starting line up though, we kept pace with Liverpool in the first half, still angry about the attitude in the second half though.
I'm in two minds. I'm swaying towards Mike Bassett, and getting Gabbi in there alongside Carrillo. Time to be brave now, take the bull by the horns, and attack these five games (post WBA). Especially now with JWP playing a Beckham-type role that I've wanted from him for his whole career so far. But equally, when it clicks - and recently there have been some glimpses of it - the three behind a decent lone striker is fine.
Yeah, i'm with you with the two Striker thing (especially at home), trouble is Pellegrino clearly doesn't fancy Gabbi and it would be much more likely to be Long he picks.
Alas you're right. But with there still being two weeks until our next league game, I can at least hope in blind faith that the board might have acted by then. It's still not too late, but we're getting close.
I thought the Referee made a decent job of it, might have been stronger on Firmino's diving, but otherwise he was good enough.
How much will it cost for Lemina? Good luck to you guys for the rest of the season, it looks like it will be a tough battle, but the table is close for a lot of teams down there.
The second half was an absolute disgrace. We showed nothing, and his substitutions were as baffling as ever. Of course Liverpool have more resources than us, and are a better team than us, but 3 points are 3 points. Teams around us have picked up wins against the ‘big boys. People say our next 5 games are ‘winnable’, but we’ve not beaten these teams across the season. Make the change now - sod the cup - and give us all a lift.
Was going to make a comment about the game, but you’ve pretty much nailed it in this. I thought we looked knackered second half. Lemina a class above. Romeu still going through his poor form, sadly. Getting too late to make a change. I mean it isn’t, but it will be soon. Very frustrating.
