Was fortunate enough to see Ajax beat Twente in the Amsterdam Arena yesterday. Ajax have an 18 year old centre back, Matthijs de Ligt, who will be a £100m defender one day, possibly quite soon. Reminded me of Maldini, which is the highest praise I can give. Ajax had two 30 year old plus players (the playmaker Schone, very good, and Huntelaar who came on as a late sub) the rest all under 24, most significantly younger. All play the old Ajax way, incredibly comfortable on the ball, not afraid to try things, If no options for a positive pass, try to beat the man in front of you, everything done at pace in the right part of the field. Refreshing.
