That's not how things were done in 1930s Britain or modern day Ireland.
Mick will cycle around all the pubs asking the bartender if he's seen Eion the plumber , the bar keep will no doubt convince Mick to have a wee glass of Malt or a pint before continuing his search mission.
By pub 3 and no sign of Eion Mick will forget all about the heating then return home plastered to a rolling pin welding Mrs O'toon.
