To be fair, with Jarvis returning to training the Physio's office had a vacancy sign posted on it so someone needed to fill the void - frigging shame it is Trybull though
That's dreadful news, even more so when he's just signed a new contract and then scored the winner last week!!!!
This from Robin Sainty's column today totally nails it http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/robin-sainty-norwich-city-column-1-5386220
Good article Cromer and I agree about the way the team is gelling now, but that will have to produce consistent results for us to challenge for a playoff place. I'd be happy with 10th or above and then a strong challenge next year.
The trouble with that is we probably won't have Gunn Klose Zimmermann Oliviera and Maddisson next year so fewer clean sheets and nobody to score the goals.
We'll have to wait and see DD. Players may leave but I'll wait until it happens. I feel Zimmerman will still be around, but if others leave I'm confident SW & DF will choose suitable replacements.
We haven't had a goalkeeper anywhere near capable since early career Ruddy and Forster. We can live without some of our key players but Gunn has been immense this season and will no doubt smash our clean sheets record from the last decade at least. If we can get him on a permanent I would be ecstatic .
Absolutely Rick and I woould be amazed if we finish much higher than 10th - which would be quite an achievement when you consider we were relegation candidates at one time. I'll 'stick my neck out' and say that we will start scoring more goals once we get the game against Wolves over, as DF's new recruits should be 'up to speed' with Championship football by then and fully integrated into the team!!
Farke inherited a squad that were 2nd highest scorers last year but the style of play rarely results in more than a goal scored . Pretty sure we only scored 2 or more on a handful of occasions , I'm hoping the new attacking players get goals but they would be considered a downgrade if we are losing Maddisson and Oliviera .
Plus, longer term, I think there's a strong bond between coach and players developing rapidly, so if they're playing regularly in a team showing progress why go through all the upheaval of a move. It's taken a while, but to a man now, they all seem to be adopting the tactics the gaffer wants so maybe the grass might not be greener
To put it bluntly this squad would be stronger and have a better chance of a top 6 finish than one without our key players Gunn Klose Oliviera possibly even Lewis . So although I respect the optimism on here about next season I don't share it. We are a selling club and without any outside investment or parachute payments a big club like Wolves or Brighton can just come in and buy the turnstiles sinks Screeny Mcscreenface and Webber will issue a statement that we didn't want to stand in their way, they wanted to leave. I'm happy with most of the new signings but the team has been carried by Gunn and Maddisson both ends . Even with our new resolute defence do you think we would have kept that many clean sheets with McGovern in goal ? How many wins have come through an individual piece of magic from Maddison?, I would argue most.
Yes DD, but we had one of the WORST records for goals conceded (I can check when I get home), hence our lowly finish. I'm sure someone will correct me, but I believe we have NEVER scored more than 2 goals this season. Before we start attacking more, DF's priority was to shore up the defence, which I'm sure you'll concede he has done. Give the new signings time before writing then off please!!
I am delighted with the clean sheets and happy to credit Farke for addressing that however even though we have kept more clean sheets than any other season I can remember we are still minus 3 on the goals scored column . If we don't go up Maddisson will go and probably Oliviera leaving us with Srbeny. When I mentioned attempting to recruit an on form league 1 striker I was shot down for wanting to sign big name players way our of our reach. There maybe another Grant Holt out there for a few hundred grand just waiting for us to sign him but decent strikers on a shoe string budget are like gold dust . I'm resigned to losing Maddisson in the summer and without him we would be bottom 3 right now. If we get £30m like Dave said we would maybe spend 10% of that at best on 4 or 5 players , I don't think we can recruit many more overseas players because of the home grown rule designed to improve British players and our International sides rather than build a squad entirely made up of cheap foreign imports.
Here we are DD - we were as you rightly said one of the highest scoring teams in the Championship last season (helped I guess by our 7-1 defeat of Reading!!), but 3rd worst for number of goals conceded!! Apologies if this has been posted previously, but I just saw this - https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/foot...ch-demand-30million-demand-liverpool-12000895. "The Canaries refused to sell him in January as they offloaded Alex Pritchard to Premier League Huddersfield for £11m and Cameron Jerome to Derby instead." "Other clubs including Southampton and ambitious promotion certs Wolves are also interested. But such is Maddison’s stock and ability he is expected to move to one of the Premier League’s top clubs.
I saw somewhere Maddison isn't in a hurry to leave because he's grateful to Farke for giving him a chance, but if someone comes in with a decent bid then obviously he will go. It's possible to get Gunn next season if Manchester City aren't going to give him a chance, but if he does go I think Remi Matthews could make the step up.
That is blind optimism and I really hope you are right , I genuinely believed that Rudd would step up but he didn't. Angus Gunn is a top talent that can play the ball with his feet dribble and makes World class match winning saves all the time. Chucking in Matthews and expecting to win games 1-0 with Srbeny as our main threat at this stage looks hopeful at best suicidal at worst. I would suggest those 2 would barely make an U23 squad.
You would be confident replacing Gunn with Matthews next season and would expect to keep winning 1-0 with no negative impact ? Based on some good results in League1 on loan ? That is blind optimism Gunn is an England U21 International and has represented England since he was a schoolboy, he's an exceptional talent destined for greatness . Remy is a talent but nowhere near the same standard as Gunn. The same as replacing Madders with McLean Klose for Raggett Nelson for Srbeny . It may work but it's not likely.
Didn't say confident did I? just saying he may be worth taking a chance on based on his good performance at Plymouth, how can you be negative about that? of course if we can keep Gunn I'll take that all day long.
