  1. In fairness it's easier to moan now as there's so many more radio and TV stations and, of course, social media. people just love giving an opinion - on absolutely bloody everything <doh>.

Well all i can say to that is that in the Med people generally live 12 years longer and the health care is far superior

They evolved into the people John Major called "the bastards", a small group including Bill Cash and Teresa Gorman, who rebelled at the time of the Maastricht Treaty.

I had no time for these early Brexiteers, but as the federalists began to dominate Brussels , the EU became more autocratic and resisted needed reform, and Blair's government encouraged mass immigration after the Eastern European countries joined the club, I, like many voters, became Eurosceptic.

The Mediterreanean diet is excellent, helped by the fact that healthy food grows well in the warm climate. The French in the South seem to lead a simpler, less stressed life than on our overcrowded island where there's huge competition for services and workers spend days in a year just travelling to work. The south of the UK does seem to be adopting a healthier, Med-like diet, but more needs to be done to spread the word in the North of England and Scotland.

Is that just a figure you’ve come up with or a fact ?
I can only find the average life expectancy figures for UK at 80.88 years and for France at 81.86 years.
Italy comes in at 82.35 years.
Where does the 12 year gap come from ?

  6. It's based on demographics. Namely, UK citizens who smoke based against the 7 people in the Med region who don't.

Maybe. I was in a nice part of Austria recently and don’t think I saw a single obese local. You notice these things when you spend too much time in Bracknell.

Are you sure about that? My recollection, no doubt clouded by the intervening 46 years, is that it was Labour who had the vast majority of Eurosceptics and most Tories thought it was a good thing. Something no doubt to do with the stranglehold the unions had over business in those days.

Most people here would still wear Lonsdale tracksuits and the trains would never run.

Most are though and of those that aren’t, most are likely too busy to really be adequately informed of what they’re deciding on. Just about any issue that goes to a referendum is going to need a lot of serious research to be sufficiently informed which is part of an MP’s role. Hardly anyone (perhaps no one) on either side truly knew what they were voting for on an issue as complex as this.

Cameron didn’t give us a referendum because he thought the public should decide. He did it to keep the wolf from his door for a bit.

Probably the former. Back then it was far too dull a topic to spend hours of free time reading up on.
