John Aldridge is talking some ****. He says we need a 30 goal a season striker along with Salah and if we had one we’d be a lot closer to city. Well maybe... but how many teams have a 30 goal a season striker plus a 25 goal a season winger? Just doesn’t happen because tonget 30 goals normally the play is all centred around that forward. Its its obvious to everyone that what we needed was a decent midfield not another striker ffs
He's a fool. firmino is on the border of 20 already what's he want like... the results are clear anyone in top half and we let in 1.86 goals per game. thats why we are not challenging city. I agree we need to control games better and just plain defend better.
He's a daft sod. We already score enough goals to win most games - we all know we need to tighten up at the back if we're going to progress. 6-2 will yield the same points as 3-2.
On the subject of Firmino, skysports have a good article on him: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...rmino-is-underrated-but-crucial-for-liverpool Personally I would like us to get another good striker in anyway, as we don't really have a backup for Firmino and can't rotate him
If we lost Firmino to an injury that would have a big impact on our game and not just for his goals but also for all the work he puts in around the pitch.First name on the sheet for me.
I personally think we can do better Look firmino is not a natural striker in the conventional sense Hes not quick either. He just plays a false 9 role and its salah thats the quick one running in behind. We need to look the to future and relying on solanke origi or whoever to cover firmino is not going to cut it.
Well Solanke might do but that's for the future, maybe we should look at a older striker that isn't going to cost a fortune but would be great to have as an option on the bench.
Looking at lacazette stats there and given mr wenger has already bought his replacement.... i think he would actually have suited us.
right now i agree but it just goes to show there are guys out there. Those stats are also stark on the luckys and kanes of this world. their job is to score the goal. if they don't they contribute very little. this is why the mancs are all over lucky. he's always missed lots of chances when shooting, he is far more a ball header than a accurate shooter so he's not doing great is he. City having 3 guys in top 10 shows how they are succeeding.
MNF Extra: Why Roberto Firmino is underrated but crucial for Liverpool By Adam Bate with Jamie Carragher http://www.skysports.com/football/n...rmino-is-underrated-but-crucial-for-liverpool
he's still not a conventional striker like a kane etc. If i were a betting man and needed a player t score cos my house was on it I'd not back firmino (or salah) My point is his strengths are not judged solely on goals scored. If they were he would be at best average. What firmino at false 9 allows is salah to make those runs in behind. He is not occupying a CB so teams cannot simply assign one cb to keep tight to him as he would pull them all over the park.
This is why I don't see us replacing him with a conventional no.9. The latter might bag a few more goals, but his overall contribution would probably be less. Firmino's work rate is crucial to Klopp's set up. Notice the number of times he prevents the opposition getting forward quickly after our attack has broken down, by executing a deft "harmless" foul. He also gets in quite a few defensive headers (though I suppose a no.9 could do that as well). I agree that we need back-up for him, but if we got a big name striker then he would want to be playing instead and that would disrupt the balance of the team, imo. It works well enough as it is, we don't really need to be scoring more goals, we just need to stop conceding so many. I'm more concerned with how we keep hold of Salah.
I'm still sure theres a better natural finisher out there. they don't need to be lumps who just finihs and do nothing else. No torres i agree but a squarez.. yes. the point being you have to try and improve always. I agree though the big issue is any decent side can bag 2 or 3 goals against us. it has to be addressed.
Obviously. The argument is whether or not sacrificing his overall contribution for a few more goals would actually improve us. I would say definitely not. At the moment he defends better than most of our defenders.
I would say any better player improves us cos if we just ignore the area suddenly we will find ourselves short one day and then the inevitable question of why was there not an option arises Like when mane was out last year we were devoid of pace. solution.. buy salah. The plan was not to lose coutinho though. so the plan up top should be to have more than just 3 options... and all we now have is 3. If any one gets injured the replacement is basically Ox.
This is a different argument. Back-up yes, but straight replacement, no - imo. How many quality no.9's are going to be happy to sit on the bench waiting for Firmino to be crocked?
They will all think they can force him out if you focus on quality you get quality. if you try by a back up you end up with rickie lambert or mario balotelli. Nobody is irreplaceable or so perfect they cannot be improved on. I agree with your point that there are other priorities cos yes you could spend years for that 5% improvement up fornt when gaping holes can be more easily plugged at the back GK CB CM LB still
