Tough one Sparky, apparantly city wanted him two years ago, however he was priced out of our reach,if this guy is as good as LJ says then we have a gem, with the option to buy in the deal at a agreed price.

I want to see him start Saturday against Sunderland, give him a go from the start, let's see what he can do.

p.s if he better the Madine none of us have a clue at present:emoticon-0148-yes:

Didn't really mean if you thought Diony was better than Madine RR. Just the principle of bringing in an unknown quantity against going for someone who is doing it at our level.

I was wondering if at ths stage of the season with all to play for for both our clubs with around 20 games to go at the time, which was the better approach. <ok>

Only time will tell, as it often does, but I think it's too simplistic to say it's a case of an unknown quantity against someone 'proven'. You and I aren't exactly avid watchers of Ligue Un, but I'm sure the vast majority of Championship clubs have scouts well acquainted with it. Whilst I appreciate the potential hurdles of getting used to a different football culture etc., it's hardly like the French league is some poor, backwater one - the average quality of player is probably higher than the Championship.

I've said elsewhere, if Madine scores the goals to take you up then £6m is a bargain, but otherwise, it's quite a lot of money for a striker who hasn't ever really been a prolific goalscorer before this season. At 27, he should be coming into his best years as a player, so it could be you're getting him at a good time.

I really don't know enough about Diony to say much, but that Saint Etienne, a club that are usually in the top half of the League, were willing to shell out £9m on him in the summer says something; although that he's not scored this season says something also! I'm comfortable with the arrangement of a loan with a view to buy - it makes it low-risk, but with a potentially massive payoff if he fulfils the potential he showed at Dijon.

I don't know if one can be considered a more 'sure-thing' than the other. Cardiff have signed players like Rickie Lambert and Adam Le Fondre in recent years, who had more pedigree in playing English football than Madine does now, but they weren't successes (we might add Tomlin to that group too?), whilst a punt from the continent in Kenneth Zohore was a bargain - on the flip side, the less said about Andreas Cornelius then better. One thing to Madine's credit over those players though is that he's reaching his peak, whereas they were on their way down.

I suppose I'll say, Madine is more likely to be a steady, decent player, but Diony is more likely to be good enough for the Premiership (and also more likely to be a total flop).

Nick - you're right about not being able to give a definitive answer on which player will turn out to be the best, we'll only find that out in May, but that's not the general point I was making. I was talking about the principle involved rather than the individuals. Forget the players concerned for a minute - we're talking about a small timeframe here - probably less than 3 months to get it right and then it's all over for this year.

Is it a safer (wiser) option to go with someone brought up through the system and who knows what the Championship is all about, or bring in a "foreign" player who, however potentially good he is, may still need time to adjust?

I understand Diony's been brought on as a sub a couple of times up till now - I'd have thought you needed someone to hit the ground running. I agree class is class, but if it takes an "import" a couple months to adapt and bring it out, it could be a wasted opportunity.

In many walks in life, safer and wiser are often synonymous, but I don't think that's necessarily the case here - to achieve something out of the ordinary, you need to attempt things out of the ordinary i.e. take calculated risks. Jonathan Kodjia didn't take long to adapt when we signed him and, despite more mixed reviews, Famara Diedhiou has still scored 1 in 3 in an injury disrupted season, so I'm trusting our scouting department again hasn't got someone in who's going to be unsuitable for the League.

So somebody like Tomlin then? How did that work out for you? Every transfer is a risk. Our scouting network ,in particular when it comes to strikers in recent years, has been excellent so I'm willing to trust their judgement again.

Tomlin was a mistake no doubt about that. We trusted Warnocks judgement at the time but it quickly became evident it was flawed.

I realise every transfer is risk as you say and I hope your faith in your scouting network is repayed. <ok>

I'll be quite honest and if it comes back to bite me then i'll hold my hands up. I'm glad you paid the £6m for Madine and not us.

From the few minutes I have seen of Diony from the bench he looks the type of player that suits how we play and what I have seen of Madine in the past he will suit how Cardiff play. I don't think either player would work that well playing for the other side.

Lets hope they are both good signings for our teams and Diony helps get us promoted and Madine scores the play-off winner to get you promoted as well, maybe then you will give us more than 1,400 tickets....

Best ask SWP about that pal, not the club.

On the other matter about Madine, I was shocked at the figures quoted for Madine - whether they're right or wrong is another matter.. There is no way I thought we'd go more than1 to 2 mill for him.

There again, if he scores at the same rate for us as he was at Bolton then it could still be well worth it. As for your bloke, time will also tell on that one. <ok>

To be fare I actually thought 3-0 at half time flattered us. And was really pissed off at the end.

But now we’ve got a ****ing Millwall fan taking the piss I feel suicidal now!

RR - Madine got no change from the Wall defenders last night, but to be fair to him, they played with their arms more than their legs.

They battered him and broke his nose in the process. Still, he had a go and maybe he can get Zohore on the same wavelength because he's been a dissappointmnet recently.

I watched the first half last night, thought you looked poor, and Millwall looked bright.Did not watch second half though.
I wished our lot went for a proven ready to go striker after watching Diony today.
We are missing Flints partner Baker badly in defence.Last ban game against Leeds next Sunday on Sky.
We are throwing it away this year sadly.
