Barton's agent talking to SSN saying he'll do a good job for us and we'll make other signings.

    Barton impressed by QPR

Barton is on the verge of a move to Loftus Road after holding talks and undergoing a medical at the Premier League new boys.

Former Manchester City star Barton is available on a free transfer from Newcastle after he was placed on the transfer list following his outspoken remarks about the club on social networking sites.

Barton's representative, Willie McKay, confirmed the player was impressed by QPR's plans after speaking to new owner Tony Fernandes about the move.

"After Queens Park Rangers got promoted Neil Warnock called me and asked me the situation with Joey and of course when Joey was rewarded with a free transfer by Newcastle he came on right away," McKay told Sky Sports News.

"Joey spoke to (chief executive) Phil Beard and spoke to Tony Fernandes, via phone and liked what he had to say and I am sure there is going to be a few more signings for Queens Park Rangers.

"Obviously it is a big wrench for Joey [to leave Newcastle] as he loved it up there and obviously he will miss all the supporters and all his team-mates.

"Time moves on, you just have to move on. Newcastle have got their plans and Joey has got his.

"Joey is very confident he can do very, very well for Queens Park Rangers I think he is a top signing for them."

We're taking a double edged sword - there'll be problems along the way but a lot of positives too. The guy's a winner, but sometimes at a cost. Last year, there was talk we'd take Marlon King. I was dead against King coming to QPR. Barton I'm more reflective about - NW's taking a lot on his hands...it's going to be interesting...

That's madness - he's just a mindless, out-of-control head case. Will only bring trouble - and a *ucking big pay-off to get rid.

He's a top quality Prem player, the only reason we're getting him is there is a problem, it's a gamble. But he should be at a top 6 side.

Northolt (know it well) - thats where we differ. Yes he can play - but for how many games before he goes ape-**** over nothing in particular?

Question : is he any more of a gamble than Kieron Dyer? I mean - Barton is at least likely to spend more time on the pitch.....

All I would hope is that there's enough in his contract that binds him to good behaviour - and that we can dismiss him if/when he goes crazy-ape all over someone, whether on the pitch or off.

Agree with Bergkamp we have got here with a great team spirit with a slice of underdog I just sense it could all go tits up if he kicks off. He is great footballer, a clever man off the pitch but was born like John Lyndon a rebel who I worship .. London is the a stage to Barton and he can't help himself .. he has to make his point at all costs and bugger the outcome ... our spirit could be ruined. Genius/Insanity borderline .. I should know 2 years under mental health care

Lot of bitterness towards QPR regarding this, but I am reading ´sour grapes´ - ok Joey B comes with an off (on) field rep, however, let´s put this into perspective.....he did some nasty things, cigar burn, etc....but I believed he was provoked? and he can be a little ´tasty´ in the tackling department, but Catermole for Sunderland on Saturday was disgraceful!!!, complete tool!!! and not hard at all. Anyway regarding JB, well he didn´t smash a young woman´s face in because she refused his decrepid advances, nor did he flee from the scene of a dreadful car crash, nor did he kill two little boys whilst driving home still smashed from the night before hurtling down the road in a Range Rover. Yes, JB is a gamble and I am certainly not condoning anything that he has done, but he does a double shift on the football pitch and is a top signing for his football ability and if NW keeps him in check he can become a major influence down the Bush. ´Berkgimp - a dutch master´ Worry about your lot mate!!!.

A lot of his problems were due to alcohol and youth, and we've all been there eh!;)
Newcastle fans are gutted, and I take that as a good sign.

Strikes me a player like Barton full of passion a commitment as well as skill is exactly what Arsenal need - never been the same since Viera left

So, the new board says to NW "You have some money to invest in the transfer market, tell us who you need". Warnock then manages to find another player who actually costs nothing in transfer fees. No doubt the wage bill will be costly but even so... I'm beginning to wonder if Neil is capable of direct spending. Must be the Yorkshire in him. Can he genuinely say this is a better deal for the club than shelling out for Scott Parker?

Of course it is because he's still got the money to shell out for Parker if he so chooses. I'm sure we'd all prefer Parker, but let's face it, West Ham want for too much money for a player on the wrong side of 30. It speaks volumes that the PFA's player of the year last year still hasn't had a bid tabled for him from anyone other than us. It would be amazing if we get Parker, but Barton for free???? Come on that's a transfer coup for us, even with his bad boy image and bad temperament. Warnock is no mug and I'm sure we've got clauses to terminate his contract if he starts playing up.
