Having noted how much Leicester have spent so far this year & where they currently sit in the table, I quite like KB's comment. Albeit cackhandidly, he's making the point that money & big transfers don't guarantee you sucess but it can result in financial ruin. I just think his timing is about as subtle & appropriate as a pork chop at a bar Mitzva
he's just as stupid as those clowns throwing stupid amounts of money at Sven. It's a case of one extreme vs the other, and extremes are never good. There has to be some middle ground. Leicester have taken the spend as much as you like just get us promoted approach, we've taken the spend **** all and do your best approach. The middle ground is to spend wisely. I don't mean every player should cost money, some of the frees we've had have been absolutely fantastic for us and it quite often is the right approach to unearthing fresh unknown talent - but you can't rely entirely on that strategy - some sensible level of spending needs to be established to allow Grayson to get his first choices in terms of experience and quality. This is where we are lacking, we are brimming with young, hungry and dangerous talent - this hasn't been an issue for at least a season now. What we are lacking is genuine quality in terms of experience and leadership - something that costs money.
Fair point Marko. But not sure who we would want that would be prepared to drop down a division & would be markedly better than what we've got. I hear that Bullard, for example, has just signed for Ipswich. Not sure what he's cost them, but he wouldn't even get into our team. We have Connolly at RB. We also have Lees breaking through. Who could we have got that would have ben worth the money? We have White, Parker, & arguably O'Dea at LB. We've also got Bessone, but I think he'll get loaned out soon. Again, who could we have got that is so much better than this collection? As CBs, we've got loads. My only thought here is that we either didn't or weren't successful in getting Woodgate. He seems to be doing quite well at Stoke. But maybe he didn't want to drop down a division or a deal couldn't be done on wages. CMs, we seem to have resolved that problem with Clayton coming through well after a loan spell & Brown as a purchase. We also have Howson who is improving to the point that under 21 honours are on their way. At the start of the season, we had Becchio, Somma, Paynter, & McCormack up front. Strikers cost!! Unfortunately we've lost Becchio, Somma, & Paynter for a while. SG eventually found a temporary replacement in Keogh, & also has Nunez to play in a more forward role. Not sure we could have bought anyone else, but maybe SG could have got into the loan market a bit quicker. Having said all of that, I think we're seeing the side move forward rapidly from a poor start, & we will be definitely the side to fear if we continue to progress & not lose anyone else to suspecion, injury, or another club's bulging wallet. Eric Lichaj would have been worth every single penny. He's not only sublime at right back but he slots into the left back position so well that if it weren't for him being a right footer, you'd think his natural position was left back. He's flexible in that respect, and I feel a little disheartened that more effort hasn't been made to get hold of him at all costs - even more so now we know he's capable of scoring goals. He's talented enough to be a regular first teamer at either full back position (and be one of the best in the league, no doubt) and would be enough to allow us plenty of cover in those quite often cursed positions. Currently we have: White - who is quickly looking like he's going to be first choice at LB Conolly - who despite a bit of a poor start is still extremely good, and often let down by his fellow defenders Lees - still young, the lack of experience is showing a little but he'll learn quickly. Very talented Parker - not worth having. He's simply too injury prone. Career is so stop start that he never gets time to build up any fitness or form and thus is a waste of wages. 2 senior players at each position in this case, although Parker is a bit of a liability in that he gets injured far too easily. Lichaj would be the only extra player we'd need to provide us with enough in those positions. Then we'd just have to get some tall, strong, commanding centre backs who aren't too rusty or slow to keep up with centre forwards. Even Kisnorbo is showing signs of being out of his depth, which is very sad.
Marko, unfortunately for us, Lichaj is back in favour at Villa. Had this not been the case, I agree entirely that he would have been worth hanging onto.
Is he trying to say that now that Nunez has scored a few goals he is a great player?, very average at best.
very talented, needs more experience but definitely promising. He's delivering the goods so far. Name a wall player that's already scored 5 goals this season...
Our chairman isn't touting any of our players as the next best thing Marko, so the answer is there isn't one, but you are scrapping the bottom of the barrel with the 5 goal argument, as 4 of them have been in the Micky Mouse cup as my Vermin friends like to call it.
regardless, they are still championship opposition. They were good enough to control most of the game, just we have better goalscoring talent. One of which is Nunez.
Well its early days, lets continue this in a couple of months time when the nights are long and the weathers cold and wet.
What's long nights got to do with it, they only play 90 minutes, I believe they play under flood lights when it gets dark, amazing technology!! as for the weather, this is England he'll be used to cold and wet weather. He's already had a season over here.
So what did he do for you last winter Itsalong...?, eventually you shipped him off to Scunny because he didn't have the minerals to get into your side, he is from sunny climates and is not cut out to cope with a british harsh winter.
