in the end my opinion is they might do it in a structured approach with new manager but they can't do it on their own. same for our side. one or two stop doing it then it all falls apart. I think we need 3 CMs not just 2... unless a side is a pure and utter bus parker. I think we ran out of legs badly in the last game but the difference between us with proper CMS and then with windy and ox was stark. Kieta is reputedly a busy box to box player. I think we need another of those so when can is bothered he can do it. when he is not it really shows. YOu need an unselfish player like alonso to really pake it work. He was absolutely brilliant and enbaling others to play by covering all angles.
they were playing 3-4-3. 3 Cbs, 2 wingbacks, 2 cms, 3 up top. To be honest, it was pretty easy for them. Doucoure and Capoue played well but they pressed us up top with intensity and their back line was pretty high up. Kante and Bakayoko were pretty much sitting on top of our back 3 and not offering anything going forward so we didn't really have anything offensively in the middle of the field. It's been our usual if you press us high as we have no pace in behind. Hazard can't outrun anyone in a sprint (dribbling it is something different), Pedro seems to have slowed down and willian likes to drop deep. Any team who presses us has us in trouble. So basically without kante or bakayoko running out as they can't turn into space and have dodgy control/passing (Bakayoko was particularly terrible last night, they nearly scored twice out of his poor passing and got booked twice by being dispossessed) we play it along the back and then lose it with either cahil hoofing it, courtois hoofing it or luiz trying a long ball which he's not managed to do all season (his long passings gone to ****). Then we went down to ten so they became even more dominant. The only time they looked troubled was when Giroud came on and Hazard was able to drop deeper and get the ball and run at them. Even then you can't do it as a one man player. Doucoure has looked great all season though, thats the sort of midfielder we should be targetting
never.... summer 2004 Alonso arrives 2005 CL win. Alonso plays major role in campaign. fat frank breaks his ankle in a bad challenge but he still delivers on the big stage 2006 Fa cup win. Alonso plays all year score wonder goals from own half. V luton and v newcastle 2007. Alonso meta tarsal injury January 2007 Mascherano arrives, 2007 maschernao and alonso play together in CL and get us to the final 2008 rafa stabs alonso in back with barry bid. 2009 Alonso goes to real madrid and glory, maschernao sees LFc fall about his ears and we end up 7th 2010 maschernao goes to barca as a sub I think alonso was the more important player anyway. superb tlaent sought after by Rela and then bayern and he ende dup with la liga title, 2 copa del rey, CL at real, 3 bundesligas, 1 german cup to go with his CL and FA cup at LFC... plus world cup and european nations cup (twice) a glittering and glorious career form a sumptious player who worked harder than anyone else and was more unselfish. Where as mascherano was an unshaven little git who kicked people he did enjoy his time at barca as a sub though 4 La Liga ,4 copas, 2 CLs and he was the shortest Cb ever. For me Alonso is the ultimate you want in a midfielder. everything is there. more even than gerrard who moved so far forward he became delli alli's inspiration but should not be the example... for me alonso epitomises everything a midfielder should be. Hard, skillful, vision, work ethic, super shot, strong on the ball and off it.
so you are a 1 man team then? good thanks for admitting it. Sorry should read 1 man team if you are referring to what i wrote. Poor grammar
"YOu need an unselfish player like alonso to really pake it work. He was absolutely brilliant and enbaling others to play by covering all angles." I didn't say Alonso couldn't do it, he could, but you described Mascherano! Alonso was more the B2B if you want to stock a modern label on his head
nope. alonso played left, mascherano right... rafa straight jacket. You might be thinking of when gerrard was out and alonso was pushed into his position and lucas played in there beside masch. and thanks for not pointing out that awful spelling. Alonso.... LFC bargain of decade.
Mascherano was DM. Alonso started alongside but was allowed to roam. We never had what the media portrayed to be two DMs
Roam like Pirlo for Juve. It's called a midfield playmaker but they are essentially DMs with incredible ball playing skills. You very rarely see them in the box and at most you'll see them outside the box.
I'd say holding midfielder rather than DM but essentially what you said without the restriction of staying back, they just preferred to
