The quote from Courtois about the penalty was priceless: "I tried to make myself small". I could get away with that at 5' 4", but he's 6' 5"! The penalty was soft, but he did catch Deulofeu's left leg with his shoulder. Interesting that Carragher criticised keepers for rushing out and diving like that when they aren't sure that they'll get to the ball first (Gomes also does it). He thinks that the attacker will always go around them to score or they'll concede a penalty. I think that one of the best when in those situations is Lloris as he tends to stand up, making it harder for the attackers and also giving additional time for his defenders to get back.
An interesting sidenote to the game. In the WFC commentary after Richarlison was substituted he sat in the dugout without putting anything on top of his Watford shirt. When we scored another goal he was up and running down the touchline to celebrate with the team. One of the coaching staff was sent to get him back, and he was made to put on a different top. The comment was that he could have received a second yellow card, making him unavailable for the next game. It seems strange that you can be sent off when you are not actually on.
And it seems Troy might be in trouble too! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....tford-skipper-troy-deeney-reveals-1172244.amp Cannot say I noticed this at the game .. Would it not just be classed as bookable offence ?
So what are people's thoughts on this...there have been some pretty disparaging comments on various social channels about Troy, and some fans have very short memories and have been at best ungrateful to what he has brought, and arguably still does bring, to the team. I am sure though that the majority still, as I do, think he has a lot to offer Watford and want him to stay....just wished his gesture wasn't so generic so as to be interpreted as being towards ALL fans
I think Troy has had a bit of a traumatic season. I would like him to stay but feel he needs some guidance and counselling on how to return to his best form. He learnt from his prison experience but seems now to have forgotten those lessons. I hope Gracia values him and lets him now that but encourages him to train harder, lose weight and get fitter and be ready to start the next campaign as fit as his can be for his age. He also needs to know how to adapt to being older - able to pace himself to contribute fully.
I thought that he along with the 10 who started and the subs had great games. Something has changed in the past week or two that has brought the players together again. When Troy went off I noticed that Gray was applauding him rather than his scowl suggesting he should have started the game. I do believe that Troy has a side to him that he sometimes struggles with, but his game does include aggression, a common enough thing with many players. He does do plenty as a public face for the club, something that doesn't require aggression, so I hope he can be reminded that you can frighten a defence, but do it fairly, and without bothering when opposing fans get at him.
TD certainly has his issues this season.. I think he needs to be managed much better Sent from my G3121 using Tapatalk
Yes on Radio 5 live this morning it was all about Conte and Chelsea's poor display rather than the great game we played.
I think the rules are the same the ref is in control for 30 min before kick off and 30 min after kick off not just the time playing on the pitch
Comment is a wonderful thing, especially when a pundit puts his thoughts into writing. “I can't see how Watford stop Eden Hazard. I also think Olivier Giroud will play and they'll be a better team than the one we saw against Bournemouth. “Watford stopped the rot at Stoke but let's be honest, they are in trouble. They are on a poor run and Chelsea should take advantage.” Paul Merson
A special night at the Vic that brought back so many happy memories of those kind of nights with "our" GT
https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...premier-league-match-report#comment-111879174 Dear Lord - the comments section in this! Well over a 1000 comments, the bulk of which are from disaffected Chelsea 'fans' smarting from the injustice to both their team and their own sense of entitlement...

I guess he could always say that he's just recently converted and was disgusted at their comments. That would possibly even put the FA in an awkward position...
