I thought I’d find out what the Barnsley fans were saying about this. My summary is: - They hate Leeds - They mainly (a few exceptions) don’t blame him for this season, most think he’s not been supported, good players sold (or opted to leave) and the current squad is useless - most see him giving them success – L1 promotion, won the JPT, first season in championship, playing good football - some were surprised given this seasons form that Leeds would want him (but still rated him themselves) - Most seem to wish him well, but see the conflict as they want Leeds to fail - Some raised an issue of whether his personal style ( honest and downbeat, apparently) would work at Leeds - not sure what this means about him, we will find out You can look yourselves at http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/forums/bulletin-board.130/page-2 but I picked out a representative set of quotes below if you find this sort of thing amusing (I do): ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… And there he goes (reference to TC being sacked). What a toxic club that is. It ought to be closed down. Maybe 10,000 of their nice fans would come and join us then If the Jan window didn't exist and Hecky was in charge at Leeds then who (if any) of his tenures signings do you think he'd try to take to Elland Road? Answer: we really don't need to worry about any club coming in for our players! no wonder he wants to go, the club have ripped apart the greatest Barnsley squad we have ever put together in the space of 12 months! You can hear in his voice he’s been pissed off for the last year! ……… The greatest squad in the last 5-10 years maybe. Chance of more money, better chance of progressing..... Its a job at end of the day. Guarantee majority of us would do the same ……….. He could be a few weeks away from the sack. Then he would probably be looking at a job further down the pyramid. He had a middling career not going to be Uber wealthy. And fcuk me 5 kids. I can barely afford 2. Despite the results, Hecky still has (had) overwhelming support. There's been a few dissenters recently, but the vast majority have stuck by him. One of the reasons for that is that he's a Barnsley lad and we warm to our own. Another is that we did so well throughout 2016 and we're not going to forget that in a hurry. A lot of us also got pig sick of us sacking managers so quickly and have been determined to show more patience. But, from my point of view at any rate, the biggest factor in sticking with him through these crap performances and results is that I think he's had a bum deal. He's had all his best players sold from under him. More, and in a much shorter time frame, than any other manager while I've been watching the club. A number of us also suspected that the signings we were bringing in weren't necessarily what Hecky wanted. We've argued this point all season with anyone who has been pointing the finger of blame at the manager. "It's not Hecky's fault" - we've said it over and over and over again until we're blue in the face. So, if we think he's been put in a sh*tty position, don't you think he does too? And with that in mind, how can we blame him if he wants to go? How can we use the above argument time and time again and then criticise Hecky for leaving all that sh*t behind? The dreaded "Just been told by someone ..." who I trust implicitly and is close to Hecky that he has been offered £30k per week to go there. Little obstacles in the deal will be signed shortly. Gutted ... one of own :'( Hecky wants to leave and has done for a while I liked this one: Should Hecky leave, a name I've not heard mentioned is the guy who has just left the Leeds post himself Thomas Christiansen. By far in my opinion, Leeds were the best side who beat us from minute 1 to 90 this season. Pains me to say it but they were. They pressed from the front, looked very fit and played some half decent football. Reminded me of us in L1 but better. He plays a formation that would suit our list of 10,000 numbers 10's in our squad. Shoot me down if you think it's stupid but give me a reason to rule him out? Would he come if approached tho?............ Answer: We need a Warnock type, to get ****e players playing average to stand a chance of survival. Pains me to say it, but Grayson fits the bill. Will Leeds fans accept Hecky’s honest and sometimes downbeat style? Answers: 1) I know what you mean...and no, I think he'll wind them off the fkucing clock. 2) They'll hang him out to dry and I'll love every moment. 3) It’s really difficult for me because I don’t take any pleasure in Hecky being a failure but can’t in my heart want Leeds to do anything but fail. Given that there’s been reported interest in Hecky in the recent past, (speculation or otherwise) and the fact that he did a great job with winning promotion, the paint pot cup and a great start on our return to the Championship, I’d like to think there is a contingency plan. Answers: 1) I really cant see how or when he has done a great job, 2) The promotion, winning the paint pot cup and a great start to the return to the Championship, all done with playing great football, were nothing then? Best of luck Hecky I rate him highly as a manager but I was starting to sense he was only a few games from the sack…….I also think he’s been angling for a move in recent months as he probably senses that he has taken us as far as he can and probably feels unsupported at times. This is obviously frustrating with new owners in place but anyone would be feeling insecure with 1 win in 16..... He’s done a brilliant job for us and wish him all the best even if it is for lufc. I wish him personally well, ……………….. Having said that, I hope Leeds tank completely. Been great for us. All the best Hecky. Absolutely should put his family’s future before sentiment. All those saying he hasn’t been backed shouldn’t be surprised he ends up looking out for himself. How has he been great? Sure we got promoted from LEAGUE ONE. but from there on our we have been nothing short of diabolical. He's jumping before he is pushed. 4 wins in 25 is frankly, appalling. Good riddance if you ask me. Answer: Promotion, JPT win, First 6 months in champ some of the best memories I have in last 30 years. Each to their own. I dont want him to leave . ……………… it couldn't have come at a worse time Hecky would be just another fall guy in waiting if he went there. They will never find another Don Revie character to lead them back to the promised land. Plenty of their fans think it is their given right. I hope they stew at this level, and preferably below it, for another hundred years or so. Hecky and leeds is just no fit on many levels imo .The only thing that I can think Hecky would go there is the inevitable compensation in the short time he would be there. If I was him I’d go. As much as that pains me to say, with it being those fcukers up the M1. It’s the one job that’s cropped up that is more suitable than the others. The guy is a hero to Barnsley fans irrespective of current frustrations and concerns but given his recent record, judged from outside, I don't get why he would appeal to another club right now. I struggle to believe Leeds would want Hecky, he's a fantastic manager with the right resources but Leeds only go for big names.
Still no official announcement so maybe terms will not be agreed. Would have thought Heckingbottom would want a 3 year deal and Radz probably only offering a 1 year with the option of a further year at the clubs discretion.
I dont think Heckingbottom is the man for the job, hope i am wrong, i really do, BUT who has he been associated with in the past in terms of Management, in means of being in a dressing room and training pitch, picking up good habits from experienced Managers/coaches..... the likes of Harry Redknapp, Big Sam, Pulis, McCarthy even Mark Hughes and what he learnt from red nose, also his age is against him, 40 something isnt he, i can see the players not respecting him when he takes them for training and does not incorporate anything new or educate them tactic wise to become better players they will be laughing behind his back, time will tell, lets see, one thing for sure we are going to have a bumpy month ahead of us with the teams we face, so we cannot get on his back and give him a chance, this is TC and Orta's **** up and it will take a long time to sort it. I also think that Radz is in the last chance saloon, in respect that he has a lot of fans behind him in the way he has tried to put LUFC back on the map, but there are also a lot of people starting to doubt him, if they turn he will know about it, also DoF is a mistake and this Orta couldnt scout a fkg girl guide at a jamboree, lets see if Heckingbottom has a pair of balls and stands up to Orta and he tells Radz what he wants............time will tell.
I saw a salary of 30k a week mentioned in one of the above posts. That explains why Rad is signing coaches of the standard he is. That’s Mickey Mouse money for a manager and wouldn’t attract anyone worthwhile to the club. The Strachan pearsons mc carthys don’t work for 150k a year
Need to change the batteries in your calculator Eire 30 grand a week is 1.56 million a year not to be sniffed at
