Yes, MOTD mikes picked up the discussion between him and the assistant. The assistant said, “if Lovren touched the ball, he’s not offside”, to which Moss replied “I’ve no idea whether he’s offside or not, I’m going to award the penalty.”
Amazing footage. Couldn't believe what I was hearing. 'Not sure he touched it, yeah, its a pen.' And the way he admitted that they have been getting advice from people watching monitors on the side lines for ages.
FFS. First they steal an undeserved point and deny us 3 now given a penalty. Come on Chelsea do us a favour.
But this is why the current rule is so stupid. Kane was offside at the time the ball was played forward TO HIM. He was moving to receive the pass so the offside, surely, should have counted, irrespective of Lovren’s touch, as it happened first. I pointed out, on Saturday, an incident at WBA. Stephens, I think, was forced to make a clearing header, because a WBA player was behind him, in an offside position. The clearance wasn’t great and led to pressure and the foul from which McCarthy had to make that diving save, just before halftime. We could have conceded an equaliser simply because of the wording of the current offside rule, or it’s interpretation, which seems to prevent the linesman from flagging until the offside player actively moves towards the ball.
