I remember when I used to work in a restaurant and Bamber Gascoine came in for a meal with his mates, 9 of them. I took him over a big tureen of soup and said "This is your starter for ten" Oh how we laughed.
Another time I went into a restaurant and asked "Do you serve shrimps in here?" The waiter replied "We serve anyone short arse"
I like the mixed starters at the all you can eat Chinese near me. The basic comes with prawn toast, spring rolls, crispy won-tons, chicken satay skewers, spare ribs, pattered jumbo prawns, that shredded cabbage they pretend is seaweed and you can also pick from anything else on the main menu so I usually go for the pork dumplings. If the crispy duck in pancakes counts as a starter then that goes on the list too. F.ucking mint! Other than that I can't really say I'm that fussed about starters although honourable mention has to go to the buffalo wing, food of champions. Great thread by the way. If you've had enough starters and want to skip mains then head on over to the other great thread on Desserts.
