Other than the incredibly soft penalty VVD had an excellent game yesterday. Did you even watch it?
His debut was also excellent. So are you on about 1 game then? Odd assumption to make if you are.

He didn't want to get injured at Southampton and ruin his move, it's not rocket science ffs.

Or have the balls to simply say to Ford that he's just not going until the summer. That decision will kill our season.

I'm open to an accusation of bias here (I'm expecting that from the usual suspects :)), but I would interpret "deliberate" as when a player has control of the ball, not when he takes a swipe at it and slices it. So, for instance, an attacker lurking in an offside position can benefit from a defender making a poor pass because he hasn't looked around him. I think that that is what the wording of the law is meant to convey, not someone who gets a touch on it in a desperate attempt to clear.
As I said earlier, if a defender sticks out a leg to clear a shot and the keeper catches it, it isn't given as a deliberate back-pass, so why should it be given as a deliberate pass when it plays someone on?
The basic offside rule wasn't always fair, and sometimes held up games unnecessarily - but in repeated attempts to improve it they've just made it unwieldy.

Astonishing - VVD was a ****ing colossus yesterday until he gave that pen away (and that could have happened to anyone). He even made Lovren a better player, until his pathetic mis-kick. Wishful thinking by the Clogsparkers that, especially after they spent £89m on the French Carlton Palmer, and £90m on a Belgian Emile Heskey..

Meh - it was obvious the little **** was going to sulk. He might have got over it, but I think Klopp had had enough. He only wants players who want to play, and have the discipline he requires.

That's not your interpretation, that's the actual rule. Hence why every competent ref has said Kane was offside.

Can you point to where I said that, as I presume I'm one of the 'all'?

The words in the Offside Law say 'deliberately plays the ball'. I actually agree that they probably ought to say 'deliberately passes the ball' but it doesn't alter the fact that Lovren deliberately played the ball which happened then to run to Kane who is therefore not penalised for being Offside. Of course if the words were changed to be consistent with the back pass rule then heading the ball wouldn't count which would create a whole new can of worms. I'm sure there are some words that would work better but would no doubt create new inconsistencies none of us have thought about. I've always thought it silly that Offside is the only offence you can commit unintentionally.

Kane: "He (Karius) has dived, he has got in the way and I'm a player, I'm not going to jump out of the way because it's football. I've definitely felt contact and I've gone down."

    Kane admits diving.

    I find it hilarious

A guy plays a ball. his striker makes a run, he is offside. a defender tries to intercept... not make a pass. intercept.

the ball has been played forward. the player is offside.

    think about it like this.

the ref touches the ball played forward. he is considered to be "like a goal post" in the rules so the ball is still forward. The defender however is considered to be actively truning a ball form moving forwar dinto a what, back pass if they if breathe near the ball?

Just like the £30m we didn't spend on Jonny Evans gained interest until a few months later it was £75m and we got Van Dijk <ok>

offside... dive... linesman tells ref its offisde... ref I'm giving it anyway.

Ref might as well have kicked karius then sent him off for assaulting the ref.

So if a player tries to kick the ball and touches it he hasn't 'deliberately played the ball'. That's bonkers!

Yesterday was obviously your first football game since you've never seen a defender mishit a clearance and the GK save it with his hands.

yes - the rule is silly, but it's there in black and white and was accidentally correctly enforced. I say accidentally because Moss apparently had no idea whether Lovren had touched the ball.

No it doesn’t. He was offside before the foul was made given it was all in the same motion.

That rule is worded differently: deliberately kicking the ball to someone is different from deliberately playing it. If Laws are worded differently then that is usually intentional.
