Theoretically. But good luck tracing some random stranger without a licence plate, and even if you do track them down, paying though th nose to get the matter heard in the courts. And if you are successful award a nominal payout that might see your car repaired 5 years later, that's if the cyclists even actually pays the £2 per week fee you were awarded. In short, no.
Well, don't get uppity because OLM out pointed out the only fatality was caused by the incompetence of a cyclist and not a motorist.
You're off the track. This is about an event on a dual carriageway with all the traffic going in the same direction. I suspect the cars might be going a tad faster than any bike, so the consequence of any rider being liable for an accident is minimal.
I think most competent cyclist at any time are more conscious of road safety than other users. Knowing you could get wiped out by some 7 tonne truck focuses the mind a little.
Don't be silly. A cyclist didn't concentrate, something that will happen to a lot of people on that road, some result in collisions, others are more fortunate. The fact that ONE cyclist comes to mind, and not one of the many, many instances where car drivers did the same shows it's an exception, and an error he paid the ultimate price for, unlike the car drivers that live to doze another day.
There may be a higher total amount of incompetent car drivers, but I'd guess cars outnumber cyclists at least 1000-1. The percentage of incompetent cyclists is far higher. Roughly 1 in 2 or 3. The vast majority are gormless **** wits. A bit like vegans.
A bloke at work used to drive , except when his missus wanted the car. He complained about cyclists when he drove and car drivers when he cycled. What a ****.
I quite often use cycle lanes and paths , most of them are very badly maintained though and some are clearly not fit for purpose
I had a row with some fat **** on a bike today. Riding on the road instead of the cycle path. I beeped at him as I went past and when I stopped in a queue, he rode up and had a go. I told him to get on the cycle path and he said it was shut, with that 20 blokes rode down it. Mind you anyone on a bike has the last laugh today round here. The road over the river closed last night and isnt open until the morning. The diversion has been gridlocked twice today. Once because of a car breaking down and once due to a fat bloke in a car having a row with a fat bloke on a bike.
It must've been just my imagination that a car wiped me out while riding in a cycle lane that "they never bloody use".
