Calling all drivers terrible drivers is wrong and just narrow minded, similarly it is narrow minded to say all cyclists are dangerous and go through red lights.

Also, I don't think cycle racing should be done on an open road where cars are going 70 mph, it is asking for accidents. No racing of any kind should be allowed on roads in my eyes.

Having had a couple of close shaves when driving along this road, I can understand why.

In the New Forest, there is a growing concern about any organised cycling event and calls to ban any events that use both the public highways and off road tracks. It is really bad during the summer when the roads are full of bikes. I am not talking about 100 riders at time, we get events with thousands of riders all in one section of the forest. 3500 on one weekend sort of does your head in, if you have work to do.

The reason the time trialists use it, is because it's the best stretch in the UK, and it's a legal use of the public highway.

No. My experience is related to my witnessing them being ****ing idiots. In fact there was one in the hedge just a couple of weeks ago on my daily commute. I didn't see it but came round just after, cretin was going as fast as he could down a single track road, a car was coming the other way round a blind bend and the cyclist had to ditch it. Sadly the lad was pretty much injury free but his expensive bike was totally ****ed.

My commute is all down lanes and there's a **** ton of cyclists around here. The clubs are a menace and organise big do's with hundreds of them often. They ride like total clowns. They're not the only problem though the fox hunters are far worse but then they're far more infrequent.

So 100's of people have to adjust their legal travel options to accommodate you. That's a tad selfish.

Yep. It's badly designed for a cycle commute, but measures are in place for events.

I have no issue with the time trial riders that use the A63. Cyclists come from all over the UK as this is the fastest stretch of time trial road in the country. If cars can't successfully navigate around a cyclist on a two lane road with traffic moving in only one direction, I'd suggest it's the driver that has issues not the cyclist. This brings revenue into the region. One fatality and 5 accidents for cyclists. What's the stats for the same period of time for just motorists? Significantly higher, bet you any money. I mean the fact the DVLA allow certain people to drive (Charon) should be more of a concern.

I never said cycles should be banned but racing should be illegal, after all it isn't a racetrack is it?

They should also require insurance. I know some do but most don't. Who has to foot a bill when a cyclist is at fault for causing damage to another vehicle? Not theoretically but in reality.

They close roads for big running events, but I doubt you'd be happy if that's what was advocated for the cycling.

It's why I said they're not 'racing'. They're doing nothing illegal.

I'd rather they close it once in a blue moon for a cycle race TBH

But they're fully focussed on going as fast as they can and therefore not able to cycle with due care and attention, which is an offence in itself.

i haven't cycled on that road for 40+ years and i don't intend to do so again. it'll be much worse now that it was. in two minds about the time triallists, but i won't miss them.

But it's not once in a blue moon, nor is it strictly speaking a 'race'.

They do have due care and attention. They need to because some car drivers are hopeless, and don't drive with due care and attention.
