To summarise that game I still can't help feeling disappointed. Going into it I'd have taken a point all day long, not only do we have a shocking record away against the top sides but Pool at Anfield are excellent. Though when the final whistle went, it felt like an opportunity to have taken three points was missed. Dier's terrible back pass is the last thing we wanted, especially when you know Salah was never going to miss. Sanchez was incredibly ****, he's had a few shaky games but that was just a monumental collection of **** ups by him, if he wasn't misplacing passes, he was connecting poorly with headers, not picking up markers and making weak tackles. There's no doubting the kid has all the ingredients to become one of the very best in his role but today you saw why he is still just 21 years old and miles off of Jan and Toby's level. That said, Jan had his poorest game of the season, he didn't pick up his marker a number of times and got murked by Salah for his second goal. Kane's penalty miss was atrocious, for me you shouldn't do two things when taking a pen: One is never hitting it soft, that's just stupid and second is hitting down the middle - which is what Harry done - by hitting it down the middle, even if the keeper dives in one direction, they still have a chance of saving it with their feet, in this instance Karius didn't even need to properly dive. But then props must go to Harry for having the bollocks to take the second and he took that much, much better, drilling it into the corner. Had the first gone in, chances are we'd have shut Pool out, they went defensive during that half by bringing a CB on so they didn't have much left in the tank - other than the remarkable Salah - but once Karius saved the pen it gave them that couple minutes adrenaline boost which Salah took advantage of. Final mention goes to Big Vic, what an amazing goal, goal of the season for me. He's looked poor since his return from injury but looked much better in his cameo today, even taking away his goal he made some very neat passes and looked a lot more comfortable. Overall a point at Anfield is as I said a good point but there's a sour taste too it and I really think we should've had all three but for the poor first penalty.
Nah, Son could see the keeper charging and chose to go through the legs when the gap weren't there. Kane thought he was going safe, it wasn't easy conditions for it.
No matter what, we leave on the up. In injury time we got the gap back to 2 points. If we win the NLD, that's 7 points out of 9 in a terrible run of games. All to play for,...
I think most of us would take 4 points out of 6 against all of the other top 6 opponents. Most of us are disappointed but in the bigger picture its not the end of the world
Absolutely. He's not just a great player, he's a great character. Never any doubt he wanted the second and would recitfy the mistake.
Sanchez was all at sea and Dier not much better, even in the 2nd half when we were starting to dominate. Taking off Sanchez and moving Dier into the back four was a master stroke. Davies had another cracking game, Trippier got better as the game went on, as did Eriksen. A deserved draw and just grateful for some unbiased, brave officials.
I think there's two ways of looking at it mate. If we do indeed beat Arsenal then 7 out of 9 is great, but when the opportunity to have taken what could've been 6 out of 6 today and then push for the 9 out fo 9 then that would've been amazing. Often with Spurs in the past couple years, we've moaned about little things throughout the season that costs us at the end, this season our early home form against the likes of Burnley and Swansea will likely come back to haunt us and I think we'll come to regret today's missed opportunity too.
Did anyone else see the encroaching on the first pen btw? Should have been retaken, Liverpool got lucky with Dier's poor touch on the opener, Salah offside on the "winner"(lol) and then on the first pen, yet they've been hard done by because Lamela got himself between the £75mill donkey and the ball.
Really interesting end to the season coming up, with 12 games to go. United - Chelsea (h), Liverpool (h), City (a), Arsenal (h) Chelsea - United (a), City (a), Spurs (h), Liverpool (h) Liverpool - United (a), Chelsea (a) Spurs - Arsenal (h), Chelsea (a), City (h) Arsenal - Spurs (a), City (h), United (a) Too difficult to call anything. Liverpool seemingly having the easier run in, with just two games left against the top 6. Forgetting rivalries, over the course of this season, it’s united i’d most like to see finish outside the top 4. They have been the team who’ve impressed me least, yet somehow they’re on 56 points. But we just need to worry about ourselves. Beating arsenal at home is a must. Their next game isn’t until March 1st against city.
Sure. In the next few weeks we get back Toby. Add in Rose and Moura and further fitness for Lamela, Wanyama, Aurier, Winksy and we're looking to improve from here. Most f us would have taken a draw today and it's still a good result, if we push on. One game won't get us 4th place but it could lose us it. That game was Liverpool's chance to shake us off. 5 points ahead and we need snookers. They were ahead twice in the last 10 minutes and blew it far more than us.
The Goons will have : 1. A one PL game backlog due to the League Cup final 2. Two extra EL games to play (and Sunday catch-up time)
True. And we’re also getting one of ours out the way very soon. It’s interesting looking at United’s too. They might have 3 home games in those 4 against the top 6, but their remaining 8 games against “weaker” opposition also contains 5 away. Tricky home ties, plus potential banana skins at the end of the season away from home.
Which is why we need to beat them. By the time they play City, it’ll feel a long time since they’ve won a premier league game. If we beat palace in the mean time too, they’ll be 10 points behind us facing city. Massive phychological factor, that.
We clung on desperately in first half at times. We were very good in second half and although we missed a penalty the big picture is the passion, desire, belief and character to not give up in the final 2 minutes when EVERY club would struggle to cope with a 92nd minute "winner" being conceded. On the Kane penalty...he has scored quite a few penalties down the middle and commentators called them good penalties. Did it v City and Arsenal away in last few years. It looked bad cos the keeper did his homework and stood up. On another day it goes in. I am well pleased...we could have been out of the race for the top 4 but are only 2 points off and unbeaten since 16th December.
And if you want a good laugh, scroll through the BBC HYS comments. Priceless!! Even after endless replays show that both decisions correct and their keeper admits to clipping Kane. Great entertainment from Mousers and Gooners
