Cycle racing should be banned on every single road in the country.

    It's a road, not a racetrack for ****s sake.

No recreational cyclists use it as they realise the dangers and the availability of more scenic routes nearby.
The only ones who use it are racers who are often out of control head down pushing for a good time in an aerodynamic tuck.Motorists are not allowed to race their vehicles so why should other road users?

Should be banned, would they let cars or motorbikes "race" down the road while still open to the public

I used to cycle into Hull to work pre-cycle way from the east coast, Hedon Road frightened me to death at times, no marshals or police on the scene to warn of my humble presence. The A63 could perhaps cope with a closed off lane on an occasional Sunday morning for the benefit of enthusiasts, it is an important venue for them.

    Time trials aren't races.

If all the cyclists started using cars, you'd get nowhere.

Of course we would, as the council could put all the roads back to dual carriageways and remove the ****ing cycle lanes and paths..........you know the ones they never bloody use.

An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock on flat or rolling terrain, or up a mountain road such as Alpe d'Huez (in French: contre la montre – literally "against the watch", in Italian: tappa a cronometro "stopwatch stage").

The cycle paths are not fit for purpose, plus the roads are for all vehicles, but some are their as of right, whereas cars are their with conditions and permission required. You're driving your car in the cycle lane.

    Well wiki'd. :emoticon-0105-wink:

The inference from most is that the cyclists are 'racing' each other, but it's a time trial, against a clock. All of which is perfectly legal, the danger generally comes from incompetent or ignorant car drivers.

If the issue is due to the number of accidents, then cars should be banned from the road too, as there are far more car accidents along there.

Yes they are. They are fully focussed on going as fast as they can and therefore not paying due care and attention and a danger to both themselves and other road users, when they've got their heads ducked as low as they can, going as fast as they can and veering all over the place.

A time trialist wouldn't be 'veering all over the place'.

It’s simply daft to have cycling on the main route into Hull, it’s a busy road full of freight traffic, I’m surprised it wasn’t stopped years ago after there was a death.

At a guess, your experience could be related to their reaction to your driving.

I wouldn't want to ride down it, because it's badly designed, and car drivers are ****, but it's perfectly legal. If the issue is safety, more people are killed and injured in cars on that stretch, so they should be banned if the same logic is applied.

It’s simply not suitable, there’s plenty of other roads better suited, there’s absolutely no reason to risk it.
