good job his inability to jump and compete in the air doesn't affect his ability to jump and score vital headed goals!
Get them in army boots with a rucksack full of bricks on their backs. Didn't we use this method successfully before with someone who became great in the air?
Definitely a work in progress. Important that they are given a run as a partnership. All the chopping and changing at CB in the first half of the season won't have helped anyone.
Of course Jack scored, so inevitably he makes Garth Crook's team of the week... This searing piece of insight about our club is from his blurb... "The Saints, however, on the back of a fabulous 3-2 win, must decide whether they are a feeder club for the top-four sides or are going to try to win something themselves. An FA Cup triumph, perhaps, or even a period in Europe, will provide stability. They have certainly produced the players over the years to do both. What they are doing - and have done for far too long - is flirting with relegation. When you flirt with relegation, the inevitable always happens." Why are the Beeb still employing this joker? hope he is one that is due a pay cut!
There was worse when he spoke about Lemina: This lad is playing for the wrong team. Seriously. Mario Lemina is an Arsenal player if ever I have seen one. For far too long in my opinion, Arsene Wenger has faffed around with the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin. Wenger should have invested in Lemina during the summer and got in there well before Southampton did. Lemina is wasted at St Mary’s. Sorry, Southampton fans, but you just do not have the class of player to bring the best out of this lad. By the way, he talks about flirting with relegation but this is the first season we have done so since we were actually relegated under Hairy Redcrapp. Just Sayin'....
Yeah, we didn't just flirt with relegation 13 years ago - we married it. Garth just dials it in every week; god knows how he's getting paid to talk about football, he obviously doesn't watch it at all if it doesn't involve the top 4 or 5 clubs.
Don't think so. He's a good reason not to go into football punditry. With a few notable exceptions (Neville and MLT spring to mind) most of them are trapped in their playing era and totally out of touch with modern football. Actually, that applies to a few fans as well! When Austin plays, I still find myself almost shouting 'Up the middle for Charlie....!!!'
Are you referring to Charlie Wayman? Before my time but remember my dear old mum used to come out with that cry. Just checked and he left Saints in 1950, just a few years before I was born. My own view on Crooks is that in a world that was just beginning to discover “political correctness” he ticked the ethnic minority box for the BBC. How he has held on to the job for so long, based on ability, is a mystery.
He's just one a few irrelevant BBC has-beens really, farmed out to a little niche zone no one pays much attention to. Team of the week - and what he says in it - is as unimportant as Lawro and his predictions.
That's the one... Crooks is very articulate I'll give him that. But fluency counts for nothing if the content is crap.
