Apparently, some Division 2 clubs are looking to sign Kyle Bennett on loan. At least it would get him off the PFC payroll for a few months and make room for another possible new signing. Bad news are the strong rumours that two Championship clubs - Hull City and Reading - are apparently looking to sign centre half Matt Clarke. That would not be good news for us, with hardly any time to sign a decent replacement. Jack Whatmough is back in training, but not anywhere near match fit !
Walkes has height which we need and great he's versatile. 5M for Clarke with sell ons added - way too good to let go for any less.
Apparently on Twitter, we are being strongly linked with 21 year old Ivory Coast born winger/striker Siriki Dembélé. He currently plays for Grimsby Town in Division 2. Winger Kyle Bennett being linked with a loan move to Luton Town.
Not one bid from your lot for Carey this window or even a sniff or rumour.................slacking Wooperts. No mention of Rueben Reid either. It's just not the windows of old anymore.
Argyle can have Kyle Bennett for half a million, sensible, but move quick as a lot of interest is being shown in him......
Wigan boss Paul Cook is keen to sign Kal Naismith from us in a permanent deal. They will have the money, as a number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing Nick Powell from them.
25 year old Slovakian winger Milan Lalkovic, has had his contract paid up by mutual consent, and has left the club. On his day; which due to injury wasn't very often; he was a very good player. Good luck to him in the future.
Have just read 3 separate articles stating that Nottm. Forest keeper Stephen Henderson is on the verge of signing for Pompey on a free transfer. He played for us in 2011, and is still only 29. Good keeper from memory.
Does that mean we are looking to loan Alex Bass out. Glad it's quiet on Clarke. Keep Connor but I would sell KS.
Portsmouth Football Club can announce that Kyle Bennett has left the club by mutual consent The 27-year-old winger netted 13 goals in 117 appearances after signing from Doncaster in the summer of 2015. Blues boss Kenny Jackett said: “We have a number of wide players available in our squad and Kyle wasn’t getting the game-time that he wanted.
Well, he has signed for us on loan until the end of the season. Good experienced cover for Luke McGee.
Something odd about Bennett going like that - surely some mutual deal could have been done with Rovers - who knows maybe there was something agreed re the paying up of his contract. We have a good squad on paper with the loans secured - just need the right formation/combination.
Kenny J has confirmed that Alex Bass will be sent out on loan to possibly a non-league club for further playing time.
With the transfer window closed I think Kenny Jacket can at least be congratulated on not making any 'not quite what we want but best we could get at the time' type of signings. The critism he gets in the press for not strengthening in areas of apparent weakness seems to assume suitable players are available which is rarely the case - particularly with strikers. Bringing in a goalkeeper is sound. While keepers generally suffer less injuries it has happened before that two get injured at the same time, for which there has been no provision in the first half of the season excepting emergency loans. Bass going on loan (with a suitable recall clause) is also sound. He can only develop with experience - not bench warming. With two loanee keepers though it means whatever the chances of having two keepers injured they are multiplied by three since double injuries at Spurs or Notts Forest could trigger recalls. I find it interesting that Henderson is going straight into the first team. My impression is McGee has done at least as much as could of been expected of him. I read a critic saying he has cost Pompey at least 10 points this season. I wonder if there is a keeper in the football league that hasn't cost their team 10 points!! The keeper always has the opportunity to make the last mistake. I would have thought the first team place was currently McGee's to lose. This makes me wonder if it has become apparent to KJ that McGee will be recalled at the end of the loan without the prospect of permanently signing him so he will give preference to a keeper he may be able to sign. If not, then McGee's immediate dropping to the bench may not help his desire to become permanent. If the above conjecture is near the mark it is of concern since, with the number of loan players we have, making selections based on who may become permanent could become destabilising as guesses to their plans, and their parent clubs plans, fluctuate. The road to a sustainable future promotion to the Championship must be based on a hard core of permanently signed players of championship quality. Permanently signing proven loan players may be a component part in achieving this. I fear it is currently too bigger part of the plan.
Some good points made pdu To put your mind at ease, we signed Luke McGee from Spurs for an undisclosed fee in the Summer, so it's only Stephen Henderson who is currently on loan.
Agree with a lot of what you say PDU - and thanks Woops as briefly thought I'd missed a trick or dreamt we signed him. I think we just need to utilise what is a good squad in the right formation/combination. I think keeping Clarke was massive and I still believe 2 up with a nippy poacher in behind would work at home....... a fluid 3 4 1 2.
Thanks for putting me right on McGee Woops - although it does make Henderson's implied immediate first team selection curious to me.
KJ seems to think that McGee has stalled a bit by having no competition and will benefit from having an experienced pro to learn from. KJ has been after Hendo for some time as well which makes sense of his selection. It will also take Luke McGee out of his comfort zone. Stephen Henderson also says he's been trying to return for a long time as well, it just didn't work out for whatever reason. Apparently he won't be going back to Forest according to Karanka, so we're likely to be able to keep him. I hope he gets a really warm welcome from the Fratton crowd.
He did get a good welcome from the home crowd, 3rd eye. Shortlived, as Henderson's nasty injury today could possibly end his season
I'm glad he got a good welcome, his interviews showed he is really happy to be back. Gutted for him with that injury though. I hope it's nothing serious.
