And no offence, rafa had some great players and scored lots of goals but it wasn't attacking football. He may have scored a lot of goals (in that 1 off season) but so did Chelseas Mourinho and this years mourinho. Was still pretty dull tactics.

As for the CL win that year was one of the most turgid CL campaigns but understandably gave Liverpool fans a real high as it was some top class defensive performances and tactics from benitez.

 

The thing with astro is he gives very little away. He's more reactionary and very rarely offers any personal feelings. He's very good at what he does, hence the rival fans he manages to draw in here

I can tolerate a manager being defensive if it's the best option considering the two squats involved in a game. I can't tolerate a manager getting several windows and maintaining that defensive stance.

Goals for 480 which when breaking down Games per goal is a higher ratio than Rafa.

Being better than rafa doesn't mean his footie isnt boring though and based on being solid and not conceding rather than going for more goals

 

So he basically played to the strengths of the squad Houlier left behind, then when he'd added enough attaching options played a more open game.

 

So what you're saying is that you don't mind unattractive football and winning trophies in certain circumstances so you do agree with winning trophies with bad football in particular circumstances rather than saintklopps 100% policy of attractive footie only regardless of outcome?

 

you still played a conservative brand of football relative to attacking managers though which is the point of the debate. He had 2 solid full backs and he had hard working wingers who had to make sure they were solid and in terms of letting flair players run free rein it was a no no.

yea he said that he didn't mind Rafa playing defensive football in the CL campaign (defensive being boring which is what we have to go on) because you were the underdogs.

just took his whole PL record as that was the first link (https://www.premierleague.com/managers/2663/José-Mourinho/overview) after i found one with his record with his 2 chelsea stints and united but no GF or GA. Happy for you to use your website and put me wrong. I was just being lazy but historically there are more goals nowadays than back in the 2000s

Sorry Bobby, but that's not how I saw it, playing with discipline doesn't stop attacking flair, towards the end of his tenure he'd bought some real crap but before that his team's were very attack minded.
