Winning with bad football can’t be bad.

Possibly not, but look at Tony Pulis, he always kept WBA, Palace & Stoke safe but a large portion of all those teams detested him by the end.

People are willing to accept grinding results out for a few seasons at best but when you stop showing any development and attacking intent the knives soon come out, and the end of the day its a spectator sport and nobody wants to watch bad football, even if it is 'winning' football.

only if you aren't winning. You think those Pulis fans would complain if they won the league or a cup?

Bet you loved the rafa years and his structured footie when he won the CL.

People (most saintklopp doesn't) would not mind winning things with bad football as for many, watch the process of a win is better than watching attractive football and losing (hell people are questioning klopp for being too gung ho with both fullbacks attacking).

Some of them would, I think. Though the point was he didn't win anything, attritional football doesn't work unless you have enough money to buy 3 or 4 match winners in your side plus have quality players to come off the bench and win games for you individually.

In my opinion managers who play football like Mourinho, Benitez, Capello etc. and focus on organisation and do not seem too keen on players expressing their individuality seem to be getting phased out of the top managerial bracket. People will point to Mourinho's Europa League & League cup wins but realistically Arsene Wenger won the FA Cup 3 times in the last 4 years and he doesn't have one of the biggest transfer and wage budgets in the world.

Tbf I've gone so off track the original discussion I have no idea where I'm going with this <laugh>

    Ranieri sacked off by Leicester.

you can win something, it's tough but you can but to keep winning is much harder.

    Glory-hunters then?
They don't worry about the entertainment element as long as they can brag about how many things they've won. Though of course they themselves have won nothing and are merely congratulating themselves for the monumental achievement of attaching their allegiance to someone who does.
And all those poor deluded souls who follow teams that never have a snowball's of winning anything don't understand that football only counts when you're winning.

i wouldn't say glory hunters. Glory hunters for me are people who are happy to join on the bandwagon with whoever is the best at the time and only turn up when their team is winning.

Don't tell me you didn't enjoy the 3-0 win against Huddersfield (well maybe not you but for most of the fan base) compared to the 3-3 draw at Arsenal.

You guys absolutely smashed Arsenal but bar 10 minutes of madness, you drew the game and all i saw was criticism for gomez, minger and your CM and nothing about your beautiful footie.

You smashed Huddersfield without playing particularly great, not really creating that many clear cut chances but people were far happier for it. You played far more pragmatically that against Arsenal.

Winning doesn't necessarily mean glory hunting but people find that far more enjoyable as that's what winning does. I would say that's true for most football fans.

    My thoughts exactly.

I think it's an age thing. Us older fans have seen more football and value it as a spectacle more than the younger fans who, unfortunately for them, are caught into the modern game with more and more focussing on the money aspect of the game and the increasing drive for 'trophies above everything'.

Can you confirm how happy you were with Houllier and Rafa? I hope you booed them out of your club for being dull but winning stuff

You will have read how much I disliked the footy under Houllier. I often missed games because of it. Football is supposed to be entertaining!

Rafa was different. I understand your point based on the team structure but Torres, Alonso, Gerrard and Mascherano were not boring to watch!
