It has just been announced that Fenerbahce have been banned from this seasons Champions League because of match fixing allegations in their own country. Now get this. There is a rule that if a team is banned then UEFA are allowed to replace them with a the team with the highest co-efficent who isn't playing European football this season LIVERPOOL Imagine if they got in this way. This would trump the 2006 debacle where they pleaded on their grubby knees to UEFA to let them defend the trophy they had just won, after finishing 5th the season before. Or like last year when they were let in the Europa League because Portsmouth hadn't paid their license to play in the competition that season. Instead they could enter the competition after finishing SIXTH in their domestic league and by default as every other side better than them were already playing in Europe Jammy ****ers.
Haven't seen that rule anywhere. I think it's more likely to end up like the Italian match fixing scandal - the guilty clubs will be dumped out and replaced with the next highest clubs in the Turkish league. After all, it's the Turkish FA who has withdrawn them, so surely they will get to replace them.
MUFCOK, I've got another scenario for you... What if we get in and WIN it! Say what you will- but no-one expected us to win in '05 either! Oh wouldn't that be a dream! Don't worry though, we don't deserve to be there this year- and we won't be either... we're not THAT lucky.
This. I would be extremely surprised if Liverpool got into the Champions League... I would love it but I cannot see it happening.
A wee bit of bitterness in this post, we won it, we were in, if we lost in the final, there was no way, soo. Winning it got us in, not begging I think. @Swarbs. Except in Italy Berlusconi pulled a few strings and got AC back in Generally, I think mancs dont care, unless we won it, then.... well....
Look at it this way Muff Cock, if we did get into it this way, how is it a debacle? If that is their rule, then that is their rule, and would you be as vocal if it meant that Milan or Real were allowed back in? We have the best coefficient, and if that is the rule, then OK. It will only be a debacle, if UEFA don't have a rule, and they make it up.
BREAKING NEWS UEFA confirm that Liverpool have been granted automatic entrance into the group stages of the champions league due to their superior coefficient, compared to all other teams. More to follow!
It appears that no other Turkish team meets the requirements for European entry, based on club finances or quality of stadia, so the place has been withdrawn from the Turkish FA, and awarded to the European team with the highest coefficient.
Great, another chance for England to embarrass itself on the european stage after Arsenal go out tonight!
Nobrot. It is just one of their rules should they wish to use it. Dont worry you are still out of Europe the might of Trabzonspor are there instead. At least i had a good laugh at the giddiness of a good few on RAWK and twitter though
