not saying he's not a good player, he's proving that this year. I'm saying how it's an unknown whether he will carry on being the world class player he was in the title winning season. when its sandwiched between 2 very mediocre seasons. Most players hit form (admittedly not for a whole year) and go through spells where they look like world beaters. It's doing it on a consistently that sorts the best players with the rest. Mahrez is showing that consistency this year so far.
I think Aubameyang has gone cheaper than I’d have though tbh. I wouldn’t have said £95 mill for Mahrez either, I’d have wanted at least VVD money and then some added on for the deadline day think, maybe £85 mill max to charge them through the nose. As i say, I think the owners are willing to risk the rewards for this season and if they get less so be it
so what your saying is mark schwarzer is a better player than Schmeichel with 2 titles and Kante is far better than Mahrez as he has 2 as well? Nice one
that's fair enough, that's a gamble they are willing to take. Probably would have done the same Still though, you think you are over charging too which is why its a shame for mahrez as he's been priced out which is what i've maintained all along
Nowt ... because our owners have shown that the finances are way down the list of priorities - they have plenty of money ... we've just announced an £80 million state of the art training complex being built at Loughborough ... yesterday
I don’t disagree. I think we look at it different ways and Hazard is a good example. Between two top years where you won the title he wasn’t himself. However after Jose went he came good and scored than memorable goal v Spurs. Some would call it a **** season, I think it’s a poor spell earlier in the season. Maybe just my positive spin on it but like I say, would be the case for others too
2 1/2 years left at over £100k a week? ... we can have a collection for him if you are worried about his finances?
I really do blame the VVD transfer. It broke the record where transfers from the non top clubs were concerned and for a defender so of course Leicester won’t want to lose a great attacking talent for less. I know Liverpool were desperate but that’s not Leicester’s fault
no he had a **** season. even for an average player his stats were ****. Look at suarez, kdb, aguero etc. Their **** seasons they still have good stats and their teams end up top 4/top. We ended up 10th or something in the league. However Hazard has had 2 pretty good, 2 great and 1 absolute turd season and he's still having a fairly good one this season. so 5 out of 6 is good whereas mahrez is 2 out of 4. You can see the talent in these players but if they aren't consistent then they aren't worth it. Arnautovic looks a world beater one day and then goes through a **** period of form. Nani was a special player and could do anything but wasn't anything other than a squad player cause he couldn't maintain the great form. Same with the likes of Lanzini, Lallana and Giroud. Streaky players but long periods of bad form
more trophies and double his salary after helping leicester to win the league? the least you should have done was pay him the 100k a week. Would have earnt that in prize money, CL money and advertising money many times over . You're lucky he even stayed when Kante jumped ship
The main reason for the fee with VVD was the length left on his contract. He still had 4 years left, if it was around the 2.5 like Mahrez then he would've been much cheaper I think
Fair enough, I’d give Hazard the benefit of the doubt and I know he’s had a number of good seasons, he’s probably the best example I could think of of a drastic drop in form after a PFA winning season. I get what you you mean about the others, I think Mahrez is still on another level to those names. Arnautovic would be better compared with Vardy I think. Btw of you want to feel a player has been hard done by, I’d say Vardy. It’s a travesty that he was in the wilderness for so long. He’d have been so much higher rated if he’d got the break younger
Standard rate for a player going from ston to liverpool. think off a number then realise its liverpool and double it. If mahrez was a ston player and liverpool came in, it'd be well over 100m
it's not. All depends where you put the barometer. David luiz went for 50m in 2014 and that never distorted the transfer market even though most people thought he was a mediocre defender.
vardy actually has a phenomenal record since he started. I don't necessarily think he was overlooked, but he certainly only fits a certain style (i would say more darren bent than a harry kane or a luiz suarez). He had a world beater season but he's dropped off to a good striker but i would argue not a top 4 standard (who knows how he'd do for a bigger club though). Also some players just develop later. Look at Antonio at west ham, he's turned into a good solid midfielder when he was a journeyman before. Same with Simpson, some players just suit certain teams.
That’s where the non top clubs bit comes in or I’d agree. Mahrez v VVD and what addsore value Attacking players go for more - point Mahrez PFA POTY and African POTY - Mahrez (achknowldging VVD cannot win the latter ) PL winning - Mahrez Contract length - VVD Size of selling club - similar but Leicester wealthier and more successful (no disrespect to Southampton, really like them as a club and their fans) That’s a lot more in favour of Mahrez but if it was from a larger club nobody blinks twice like Luiz
